Truck pulling

Recommended Posts

Been to the dieselpage.com but not spending $20 to have some questions resolved. I know what strapping the IFS and how to do it. But big question, is some guys on the diesel page, are using front lockers on their IFS, I have powertraxx NO-Slip locker in the front, and have broken 2 drivers side CV-joints just wheeling and mudding. The factory one didn't even last a few minutes, the auto parts one lasted for a few months. I wondering how these guys pour the coals to the driveline with juiced Dmax's with front locker and cv joints that live? how? Also my rearend hops and bouces around like on trapline( already take out u-joint because of it). Maybe I have 1/2 ton springs on hd 2500! Which getting fix in month, still designing the traction bars.

know of any high performance cv-joint manufactors?

Will the Alum diff case handle the power if I get stronger CV's?

Also wondering if there any of you out there with tips and hit for truck pulling at the county fair.

And yes westers prog is on the way.

I pull in 4 events a year. I have never blown a CV. I am digging in with 35-36" tires. No reason to strap the front down. You can do the same thing by cranking down the t-bars. All you are doing is preventing wheel hop in the front. If you get your wheels spinning, you dont have to worry about it. Just get the wheels spinning to get the RPMs up and it will dig in when the weight gets up there.

thanks alot 1BADHD. I been looking for different opinions on pulling.( hopefully I can carry on the proud chevy name) I broke my cv joint playing tug-o-war but still had 3 wheels with power . And strapping the ifs, least this version. has to do with strapping the center link down so it does not go upwards, which lead to bad toe-in when pulling. Which in turn lead to stronger tie rods cause factory ones start bending in. Anybody else have any info for a newibe puller(shocks, traction bars, tires, etc..)Also do you or anybody know where to get info on pulling events in minnesota(rules,dates,etc..)??? thanks a-ton for any help.:chevy:

I was going to say traction bars to stop the rear-end hopping or axle wrap. I don't know if they're allowed in the events you mentioned or not since I don't know anything about pulling contests.

My F250 does the same thing on slick mud or ice. In the winter I keep 600lbs of sand bags in the bed and that pretty much eliminates it. Also probably useless info for you since I doubt it's feasable in pulling contests.

If you keep from wheel hoping the front, you wont have to tie down the center link. That hoping and vibration is what causes 90% of the bent tie rods. If your woried about them, beef them up some or buy some after market ones.

As far as tires, Pro Comp X-terrains are the way to go.

Traction bars should be allowed. I ran them here in MO. But.......everyones rules are different.

1BADHD-

Where do you pull in MO?

I use my '77 K30 as my pull truck. I pull all over SEMO, So IL, W KY, W TN, NE AR. Where ever there is a pull.

Let me know where you pull, and maybe we can hook up sometime.

I gotta warn you though, the ol' 77 is pretty mean. (ugly too, that helps)

Ste. Gen?

I've pulled there several times. I have videos of me pulling from their local TV station that had aired some time after the pull was over.

I pulled there last year when they had the big truck pull at the fairgrounds. Although I usually pull at the Ste. Gen Co. fair, I missed that one last year.

Some buddies of mine and I have considered the Farmington pull but have yet to make it. I under stand there is a truck class at the tractor pull at Belgrade, also.

One reason I never made it to the Farmington pull is because my truck is considered "pro street" and some places wont let me pull against pure stock trucks. After traveling 100s of miles, it sucks to get somewhere and not be able to pull. I don't know if this is the case at Farmington though.

Truck pulling as topic

Chev8.1- I wasn't dissin ya man. I added this link above to answer your original post. This is a mile long post I put in as a reply over on RV.net's forum. I didn't want to retype it, and you'll see why. Click on it. If it gives you any trouble send me a PM, and I can help you further. Also, if you have any more questions, PM me and I'll be glad to answer them.

I can't speak for your equipment, because my '02 has never been hooked to a sled. But my '77 K-30 is what I use for pulling. It has the best of everything. I.E. granny low 4-sp, NP205 t-case, Dana 60 front axle, GM 14 bolt corporate rear axle. And oh yeah that 454 under the hood. And a 7000rpm rev limiter chip just for good measure. (7000rpm on a big block- well you know- it's better than sex) Okay maybe not.
