Don't push "dome override" twice while doing 90+

Recommended Posts

Some of you guys might know about this "trick" but I found out what happens while doing a little over 90. I was cruising back from the track while jamming to some good music on the XM stations. I turned the interior light on for a second and then accidently pushed the "dome override" button twice. At that point Stevie Wonder could probably see more than I could. There were no other cars on the highway, no lights on the highway and all of the lights on the truck went out. If you thought you heard someone yell "oh sh*t" around 11PM that was me!

I yanked on the high beam stawk to get those going. I let go for a second to confirm that the headlights weren't going to come on by themselves. I then used the manual switch to turn everything back on. Tried this again at home. Everything goes off when you hit the button twice.

Glad your ok, but have to laugh. Not the way to find things out.

Reminds of a friend, I'll make it short:

My friend went to this party, parked his truck on other side of the road facing the wrong way. He drinks and gets a little tipsy........ gets late and time to go.......... goes to his truck, gets in, sparks it up and shut his eyes for a sec, or so he intended.

Next thing he knows, he's woken up by these two bright lights coming at him and starts screaming like bloody murder.

Remember he parked on the wrong side of the road................Someone was pulling up to park...........lmao.

That would not be fun fishtailing or being unable to see in a truck like that...heck you might accidentally run onto the shoulder and lose bambi and friends who were grazing roadside underneath that thing with the height of the lift and that rubber.

Let me guess, you had your lights on auto, right? I thought that it was three times but on the 99 and up silverados , if you press your dome overide two times, then hold it a second on the third, it turns the DRL's off, as well as the auto function. You repeat the process to turn them on again or just turn the truck off then on and it resets. It works good if you don't want yoru drl's on all the time :P .

You gotta love all of these multi-function switches. Just like resetting the oil change warning...fully depress the accelerator 3 times within 5 seconds with the key ON but the engine not running. Seems like it costs more to have engineering figure out how to do all that stuff than it would have been to install a dedicated switch in the first place.
