78 chevy lifting question

Recommended Posts

Well My project is to lift a 78 3/4 regular cab long box for as cheap as possible. In the back I already flipped the shackels, but only gained 3-4 in. of lift. I know I can put a block in the back, but nothing bigger then 5in. Now for the front It's looking like i need to just order some lift springs, but is there any way to do some sort of shackel work on the front. I think i could make my own, but I'm wondering if the best bet is to just order new springs.

How cheap is cheap for you? Do you want blocks in the back or completely new springs? Personally if I had the $$ I'd go with completely new springs front and rear. On a budget, blocks. My dad and I installed a 6" Genuine Suspension lift from 4WheelParts for $326 on an 83 GMC High Sierra. They also had a 4" for $296, an 8" for $396, these kits came with rear blocks. But if you want completely new springs front and rear, with no blocks, 4" $496, 6" $566, 8" $664, and a 10/12" for $899. One other thing, some trucks back then came with longer than normal 52" Rear Springs. The 56" rear spring. Try 4Wheelparts.com, I know that ProComp sells individual springs for around $130 ea., both in the 52" and 56". If you have any other questions, let me know, Chris.

Thanks for the reply. It's not so much the back that i need help with it's the front. I'd buy new springs, but this is a strickly mud truck and once it breaks I won't fix it. (bought the truck Cheap) I'm just wondering with the front if there's any way to Jimmy rig a lift on that with all the other steering and what not still able to work.
