INSTALL TIME PROCOMP 6"LIFT

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone Happy April Fools Day. I have a customer who wants us to install a procomp lift kit on his 96 K1500. This will be a first for our shop. Just wondering if anyone can give us a heads up on what to expect and a rough guestimate on time required. The kit is 6" front 4"Rear Procomp# 51094? Thanks in advance. Darren

The only thing about the ProComp suspension lift is that there is some cutting involved. The only cuting is on the lower diff mount which is mounted to your drivers LCA mount. There is also a small gusset to be welded in there. That shouldn't be too bad, but I have heard that the exhaust does need to be modified. I really haven't seen any proof of that and can't really understand why. I personally have never installed one of these, but two of my friends have. After talking with them they said the cutting and welding was that bad at all. As for installation time, I would give yourself two or three days. Two for installation and one for allignment and whatever else you might not have gotten done. The only advice I can personally give is to read the instructions that come with it and if you don't understand something give ProComp a call because once you cut something its hard to go back. I hope this helps. If you've got anymore questions I'll see if I can't get one of my buddies who actually installed the ProComp lift to come over and respond to them.

Since this is your first lift allow yourself with a helper 10-12 hours. Once you do one you WILL learn the tricks and shortcuts that work best for you. I can get one done now easily in 8 hours. Even less if the phone doesn't ring every 10 seconds. My all time record is 6 1/2 hrs on a 2003 Silverado 1500. I had help and the shop doors were locked. So go for it and have fun.
