Can I do this???

cleaned my filter today, pulled the intake off, to clean all of that and such. Got a question

I cleaned off the air flow sensor (which was black as hell btw), and I started thinking, hmm, can I modify this thing? It's got that screen there, but it doesn't really restrict very much, all it does it collect suit it seems like.

Anyways, can I cut the screen out to allow that liiiiitle bit extra air flow into the engine??? I don't want to try it unless it's o.k. I don't see how it could affect it. There didn't seem to be anything inside the air duct anywhere, so it's not like anything even gets thru there, except for air.

I'd rather see if I can do that first than spend $325+ on a new sensor.

Any input GREATLY appreciated!

I did it to mine with no problems at all. I have heard of many getting an error code due to it though. Not sure why some are different, but I guess I'm lucky. Another mod to try is the throttle body coolant bypass. You just need to disconnect where the coolant enters and exits and buy a fitting to combine the two hoses. This keeps the throttle body cooler, so the air stays a little cooler. It's only required at locations where it stays very cold to keep the tb warm. I got the directions off another webpage, but my link has gone bad.

Cool! Thanks. How do you get the error code though? Like read it and such. AND if I get it, will it affect the truck at all until its fixed???

Well, I sort of gave it a shot...

I took it off again, cut a hole in the screen, like leaving about 3/8" around the outside, so it "looks" like it hasn''t really been modified, left the cover of the intake box (my dad wanted the intake to utilize the stock air box, dunno why )

Anyways, after I cleaned the filter, intake, cleaned the t.b, and cut the screen...

I didn't think that having the cover of would help a lot more, but holy bejesus! I LOVE the way it sounds with the air sucking in! Before I could spin them "this far" I would tell people, but now I can spin them twice as far frrom a dead stop!!!!! LITERALLY!!!!!

I'm going to be doing a lot of work with my dad over spring break, I think it's time to save for my Wester's
