17x8's & 285/70/17's ANYONE?

Recommended Posts

I searched the site and did not find much info on this tire/wheel combo. Debating on new whee&tires and am wondering if anyone is running this size. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Figured I would have to crank the t-bars a bit as they are about the same size as the 285/75/16's, kinda wondered about back spacing also.

I have a 2000 Silverado K2500

Thanks :loser:

I've got the 285/70/17s on my truck but, I'm running the Hummer Wheels and they are a 17x8.5 wheel. The backspace on them is 5.5". I didn't need to crank the t-bars or anything like that to make them fit. I did do it though, I just thought it made the truck look better.

I found out last week that the 285/70/17 that is supposed to be a 33" tires is actually only 31.5 when it's on the vehicle. It kind of surprised me but, due to the lack of response I got when I posted this info, I guess I was the only one who was surprised :loser:

Picture of the truck with the 285/17 and the t-bar crank is in my sig.

my experience with cranking on t-bars is that it depends on a couple things:

1) whether or not you have 4X4 or not. I have a 2WD 2500HD. Used to have 285/75/16 with 16X10 wheels and I had to crank the t-bars a bit.

2) bumper replacement: i put a 450 lb. front bumper replacement on, and had to crank on the t-bars again as a result of the extra weight.

I've now got 305/45/22 with 22X10s on there, but have a completely different strategy in mind for the truck. Not likely to be a popular one here, so will save the details. At any rate, I was able to put the t-bars back to "normal" with these new tires, and no issues.
