westers 93 hot tune

ok guys here we go

2002 Chevy 2500HD 6.0L a4 4wd 11,000 miles

installed the ecu today and had to wait 30 min due to the security relearn. got it out on the road and nailed it a few times. I instantly noticed improvements at wot. I was having an issue where 1/2 throttle had more power and acceleration than wide open. drove around town and got on it a bunch of times. Floored it at a few stop lights and it will now squeal the tires for a few feet, before it would just fall on its face and couldn't spin tire in the sand. Went down a dead end in the industrial park and attempted a brakestand. It would spin a little but not enough to make any noise or smoke. Got it up on the highway, passing cars now is a dream, waaaaaaay better than before. Pulled over at a rest area and waited for a clearing. Floored it from a dead stop and man does it pull, first gear shifts a few hundred lower than before and second shifts at 5600 rpm at 88 mph and pulls like a bear thru 2nd and 3rd. Impressed so far... no noticeable gains 1/2 throttle and less and hopefully improved gas mileage will justify the 93 octane.

so far so good

Sounds good! Give it 50-100 miles of learn time and it will keep getting better and better. You will notice another boost in power when the gas formulations change over to the summer mix. Winter gas has way less power, and I know I get about 2 more MPG on the summer mix too. Different areas of the country have different mixes, but I live in MA too so you should see the same as me.

well I finally hit the 100 mile mark and now the truck is starting to become a little slower....

not sure why but it does not have the power it did when I first installed it. Cant even squeal the tires anymore and a brakestand is out of the question.

ideas...??????

These computers are "adaptive", meaning they will adjust engine tuning to your driving style. Drive it hard, it will run hard, drive it easy and it will back everything down. It's not in the tuning, that can only be set to maximize the engine and tune for the hard driving, the computer takes over from there. I'd estimate the programming backs the timing and other parameters down about 5% in granny mode. Doesn't matter if you have the Wester's or the stock tune, it will back either one down about the 5%. This is in the GM programming, and has nothing to do with the tuning. The transmission is the same way and will adapt to your driving style.

Get on it hard a couple of times and it will adapt itself back up again. I find if I take one good blast a week mine stays at max tune.

well thats the odd part. I run it wide open thru 1st and most of second every day. Its gradually gotten worse as the days have gone by.

now im just confused.

I felt mine get a little soft... (or maybe I was just geting used to it), but then I hooked up to a trailer and towed it for about 600 miles and after I unhooked, the truck ran better than it evr had!!!

The adaptive feature is a slow learn thing, (the way I understand it) and it takes awhile to get it back to the "hotrod mode".

My best advice would be to disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes and then recconnect it and see if it goes back to the original program Lyndon wrote for it. (It should).

I realize it's a PIA but tht is about all you can really do, unless you really "cuff" on your truck for a whole day!!!

You are just gettin used to it now,and you are wanting more. That is exactly why puttin mods on your trucks is addictive, cause you want more and more.I have a lot of mods and everytime I did one more mod I had to have more.It never ends.

I hear what you guys are saying but why when I first installed it last week I could smoke the tires off the line but now it just bogs for 5-10 feet?

something is wrong and it may not be the westers but I dont know where to look

I took the maf out and cleaned it and the t body but that didnt help

I was thinking it was just the getting used to the extra power too, but now that you mention the bog for 5-10 feet, that's different! Definatly disconnect the battery and reset the short term memory. If that doesn't cure it, call Lyndon at 1-888-WESTER1 and see if he has any ideas!

keep us informed, I'd like to know what this problem turns out to be!
