Brake Controller mounting

Recommended Posts

I just would like some ideas where you mounted the brake controller in your GM? I do have the GM specific pigtail harness for my Prodigy brake controller but haven't found an ideal place for the controller, yet.

It would be great if you have some pics.

I just mounted mine yesterday. I was faced with the same dilemma so I compromised. I did not want to drill holes in the plastic panel under the steering wheel so I fastened mine to the metal bar that the panel attaches to along the bottom of the dash. I wanted to put it to the left side of the dash but the emergency brake lever and diagnostic port are there so I put it in the middle under the steering wheel. There are 2 holes there for mounting something so I used them. The problem is that I can not see the controller if I have the wheel lowered to the position I normally use but I do not really need to see it anyway. If I need to I can reach down and push the slider that manually applies the trailer brakes. Sorry no pics. :D

Good luck with it.

When we mounted ours we just drilled to small holes for mounting at the bottom of the das and then one hidden behind the controller to run the wires, a clean install, and it doesn't lookbad! :thumbs:Oh yeah, lol. On the right side of the steering wheel too hehe

I have the bucket seats in my truck. I mounted it right next to the center console over my right shin-bone. There is alot more clearance there than you would think...

Sorry the picture isn't very good.

That is the same EXACT place where mine is. And yes there is more shin clearance there than you think.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a 2002 Extended Cab with buckets and the full console and I installed my Prodigy in the CD holder below the cassette. It was a stretch for the Tekonsha wire harness to reach but it does work. I just open the door when I'm towing and when I'm not, I close the door - out of sight, out of the way...
