Cost to change gearing

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 GMC 4x4 with stock gears. Waht is the ball park range cost to change out to 4.56.

I am runnig 285's(305's in the next week or two) and wouldn't mind getting some power back if it's not cost prohibitive.

Thanks in advance

If you are just going to change gears. I know shops up here it is going to run about $500 an axle to swap them. If you want to add a locker then add the cost of the locker to that. probably another $500 or so.

And I think $1000 out the door for both axles is on the low side. Mine with a new Eaton limited slip, synthetic fluid, and one year warrenty was closer to $2000.

Well your not to far from me. I will supply the bruha and the beef and a few dollars for the gas if you wanted to give a hand on your next trip to the twin cities area.

I just got a quote from my local 4x4 shop for $1500.00 for 4.56 gears and a detriot locker on an 2002 Avalanche. Installed and warrantied out the door.

Sounds like a great deal. Probably hard to beat.

You let me know when, and I will have all ready to go. I'm not in a hurry so in the next few months is good for me.

Not to mention I want to check out your rig. That is a sweet ass truck.
