Most Efficient Intake/Exhasut

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to put an intake/exhaust on my 04 2500hd 6.0.

On my previous truck I had a K&N FIPK. It was nice, BUT whenever I went through deep water, splashed puddles, etc the filter would get wet, even though it was in the "heat shield". I ended up making my own shield for the bottom to completely seal the filter off from incoming water, etc.

I felt like the 4.3 was lagging big time on the low end of the rpm band as well....

The 6.0 feels like it has balls allready stock. I havent pinned it to the floor yet (Only 100 miles on the truck) I'll wait a few thousand miles before that.

I was thinking of the volant? intake that LOOKS to completely seal the cone filter off in a small compartment?

What are your experiences with different intakes? Which is the most effective and looks the best, yet provides some protection from the filter getting soaked?

I also had a Magnaflow exhaust on the ZR2. I sounded great running duals. I have a funny feeling that the Magnaflow will be too loud for the 6.0, as it's allready pretty loud stock.

Maybe Flowmaster 50 delta flow would give me what I want?

I want a deeep nice grumble at idle, No inside drone that you have to turn the radio way up or yell over it. BUT, when you stomp the gas it will scream, and when you level of in your speed/rpm's it stays at a nice deep grumble...

Any suggestions are helpful.

Volant seems to be a good intake I guess, I have the K&N and am very pleased with the results. I don't know if Magnaflow will sound loud on a 6.0, I haven't heard them on one and I've never had a problem with them being too loud. A 50 series SUV is the muffler that you'd run onn the 6.0, it's the one w/ dual inlets and outlets. It has a louder interior sound inside, not bad though. A nice, deep mellow tone when you're cruising, hopefully no drone at highway speeds, and when you want to hear it, it'll be there

Not sure about the intake set up on the 6.0. I don't think that you will see any improvement over the stock system unless you are planning other more serious mods. Probably just a waste of money. Volant sounds like a good choice but I have no personal experience with it. I have an Airforce One Intake System that looks and sounds great but has not improved my trucks perforance and I think that it has actually hurt it a little. YEMV

As for exhaust I am beginning to feel the same way . If you are doing it for performance then I think that you may be disapointed. I you are going for look and sound then please fill your boots as they say. If you've got the cash check out those new Flowmaster Hushpower IIs. Sound file online http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/...tml?id=J8ktTSYe here.

Having fun yet ?

Hushpower II's are sort of like a glasspack. They do sound awesome in the clips, but it might be a little loud. The 6.0 w/ 70 series Flows has a nice dep-more mellow tone, t's what I have on my truck. Shaners is right, it's not loud, but it lets people know it's under there. It's louder on some trucks tho, so a 6.0 would prolly be louder than mine I guess (ppl say its a loud engine).

I figured a 50 series would be fine for your application, since it seems to be what you want.

Everyone says they get drone with Magnaflow, but I've NEVER had a problem with Magnaflow droning, seriously.

Either a 50 series, 70 series for more quiet, or Magnaflow would sound aweosme.

Oh yeah, ever thought about Spin Tech? A different design, but OMG they sound nice! And no drone!

I noticed a Huge increase in my 4.3 when I put the FIPK on...I actually "felt" it....it was a dog to begin with though.

It does sound awsome when you get on it, I can only imagine what the 6.0 sounds like.

As far as mods, I will only do the intake/exhaust...and maybe a HPP3? program on the computer so I can switch it back to factory setting for the warranty work.

Flowmaster 40's are way too loud....Magnaflow & Flowmaster 50's are about the same.....I'd love to hear them on the 6.0 though...

As far as the FIPK, I do NOT like the fact that the bottom of the"heat shield" is open...when you splash through water, it soaks the filter. Not good. I fabbed up my own shield for the bottom to completely seal it off on my old truck

I like the sound of the open cone, but if no one makes a setup that seals the open element from water then I am staying away from it this time and getting a drop-in or somethign that actually encloses the cone filter in a box...
