Skid Plates

Recommended Posts

Where can I get a set of skid plates for my 04 2500HD 4x4? Mine didnt come with it for some reason. I assume because I didnt get the Z71 option. Most of the stuff on the Z71 will be changed ...I'll add an elocker down the road probally and a few other goodies. I do however want the skid plates, or something equal or better aftermarket...

Thanks again!

I believe a guy with the screenname of DuckHunterinTN made a replacement plate for that plastic one that's right up front. I know mine has been on the truck for a few years with no wear, etc. I'm not sure if he's still building them or not.

It would be great if I could find some black diamond plate & have someone fab them up...

I found a 2x2 piece of silver diamond plate at menards and it was like $30 some dollars

I bought a Tahoe last month. I wanted it loaded and couldn't find a Z-71 with enough options. Finally, I found an LT with all the goodies (including limited-slip diff), but it did not have skid plates.

The Customer Relations guy at the dealership said. "No problem, we'll order the Z-71 skid plates and you and I will borrow one of the mechanic's bays and install FOR FREE."

It happened just as he said it would. He ordered the Z-71 skid plates and I joined him over the lunch hour (while the mechanics were gone) and we did the install. On the Tahoe, there are two HEAVY aluminum skid plates, held on by four big bolts each. The holes are pre-drilled and there are no nuts; the heavy bolts self-tapped. Hell of an effort, but the bolts are in there, solid.

Anyway, the skid plate kit cost me $108. The install, which any fool could do, but obviously easier with the service bay, was FREE (always a good price).

I would imagine the skid plate kit would be available from your dealership and the price would be similar. You can do the install yourself, it's just a matter of holding the plates in place and reefing the bolts hole (hint: leave them loose until all four are self-tapped a bit. Then, work them home).

Good luck and please let us know how your project works out.

We hunt big game animals in several states every year and a rig without skid plates is useless. I would imagine your needs are similar.

I saw these on ebay, but will they work since mine is an 04?

Edit: Mine has a front skid plate just behind the front bumper, but the front end, and transfer case do not have them....

I think they will work, but not 100% sure. Hopefully someone with an '03 will see this and can answer you better before the auctions end.
