Water In Fuel

Recommended Posts

Alright I am 1300 Miles from home and on the way down here the other day the Water in Fuel light came on and went right off. Only came on for about 10-15 seconds and then shut off. The truck has never missed a beat. My brother has told me to check for a water fuel seperator because he has one on his powerstroke? I left my owners guide at home sitting on my desk. Any idea if the DMAX is equipped with this? But I have now driven another 500-600 miles and have not seen the light since. Just don't want it to give me issues on the way home this weekend in the middle of the night. The stealership said I should be fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

David

You should be okay...if it comes on and stays on, then you need to pull over and be prepared to cuss as you change the filter. Getting to that filter can be a real bear....it's above the front right wheel well. First thing GM should have to do when selling a Duramax is show the potential owner how to change that fuel filter....sales would drop until they decided to put it in a little more accessible spot.

P.S. I'm a previous owner of an '02 Duramax...load of fun changing that fuel filter in Alaska...stories you can tell the grandkids but without the detailed cussing that was involved.

Also, this is a fantastic site but if you want a little more detailed info on your "oil burner", you might check out http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/. I used them alot when I had my Duramax and you can learn alot about diesels from those owners.
