Tranny temperatures in towing situations

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am fixing to switch to 4.56's or 4.10's. I was wondering if this will affect my tranny temp? I will be hauling a 3000lb. car this summer to the racetrack and didnt know if I would need to add an additional tranny cooler? Is the factory one suffecient?

It will help keep the tranny cooler at least it should. The reson being its not working as hard. However think about it. if you tie a 100 weight around your back and jog around your going to break sweat. I hope a least i would. I suggest you get a external cooler like a B&M or Perma Cool. Heat kills a tranny

If you have the HD towing package with the factory tranny cooler, adding gears will only leverage the power your motor is making. The tranny will be fine. I have about a 3200lb car that I tow to the racetrack and, trust me, your truck will not have any problem towing it even if the trailer is 2000 lbs.

Good luck!

How do you know if you have a factory tranny cooler? Also, can the dealership install one? And if they do, do they have to remove the bumper? My brushguard and stuff is already on and I dont want them removing it.

If you have the towing package, you have the tranny cooler. It's that simple. :D

I have a factory towing package. But, I dont know if you are talking about an "HD" towing package are you?

As far as my cluster, I have an 2500HD cluster with a tranny temp. gauge.
