Differantial lubricant

I am abaout to change the differential lube in my Chev Silverado 1997 2500 4x4.

 

Just wondering wether putting in suntetic lube would be an advantage, or wether just putting in the normal GMC recommended lube. If syntetic, what lube would you reommend?

 

I will be towing a 7300# 5th wheel in the summer.

 

Any thoughts?

Definatly go with synthetic. Mobil 1 is good and usually easy to find, but any synthetic will be OK.

I'm a big fan of synthetics too. AAMOF, my entire truck -- engine, tranny, tcase and diffs -- is all Mobil 1.

Synthetic lubes have a higher thermal break down temperatures. When towing your 5er you will be generating higher temps in the differential compared to not towing. I use synthetic oil in the rear and the regular stuff in the front on my 4X4's.

Synthetic is a no brainer for differentials. I use Amsoil in all of my equipment listed below.
