Westin Chrome Steps - pitted after 2 wks!

Recommended Posts

Trying to figure out if it's normal or I should contact Westin...got a set of the Chrome Signature Steps put on about 3 weeks ago and when I was polishing them today I noticed several pits in them right by the front tire on one side. Haven't driven in any weather other than rain and it hasn't been off-road, is this normal wear and tear or would a call to Westin be merited? The pits are minor, just a bummer since they are so new! Thanks!

I will be sending my Chrome Oval Tube Steps back to Westin for the second time this spring.

As far as I can tell they are having troubles getting the chrome to adhere to the aluminum, and the aluminum is starting to corrode causing the chrome to come off.

If you have the CPS nerf bars, they are chrome over stainless, and you shouldn't be having the same problem as I am...

I had Westin black stainless step bars on my '98 1500. 1 year later the paint started to peel off of them. Not a chip here and there, but it was coming off in sheets. Needless to say, that was the worst $283.00 I had ever spent and I will never buy Westin step bars again.

Chrome (from any supplier) is going to pit. Get polished stainless (Westin "Platinum"). It stands up to anything, including Minnesota salt covered roads. Mine look like new.

I agree, I've had my Westin CPS bars for 3+ years now with not signs of rust. Super easy to clean-up and make shine. I had some polished stainless steel bed rails on my '91 for 8 1/2 years and never had a bit of rust on them.
