Fumoto valve

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Bought a new 2024 silverado 2500 with the l8t 6.6 gas engine. Dealer gave me one free service that I used monday. I have a friend with a nice pole barn with a lift. Plan on doing my own oil changes from here on. Mentioned it to service rep that I was going to put in a fumoto oil change valve next time and he said it might void my warranty. Is this true? I think he may be full of it.

No with the following caveat - if the valve is knocked off the pan (because it protrudes further than stock plug) and the service manager figures that out, any claim for lubrication failure will be summarily rejected.

I've used Fumoto valves in the past on a 4.3L S-10 and a Subaru Legacy with good satisfaction. They are well designed and manufactured.  However the typical "knuckle dragger" doing oil changes at a dealership can be confused by its operation and will remove it like a normal drain plug. This may result in the need to remove and replace the sealing gasket. Ask me how I know...  aarrrggghhh!

I had a friend whose Fumoto valve got knocked off due to a piece of tire from a truck hitting it. I would never use one

I had a Ronin plug on my F-150 which allowed me to drain the oil without taking the cover off. Personally, the plug is so easy to get at on our trucks, I wouldn't bother.

I have Valvomax units on everything in the yard and the pickup has one for the transmission as well.

Can it get "knocked off"? Sure. Anything is possible. I drove over a rock down near Lake Havasu Az. about 40 years ago and it ripped the belly of the pan wide open. Didn't look that tall. 😏 I still use oil pans.

Just don't straddle debris if I can at all help it. :idiot:

On mine to hangs a few mm lower the the OEM drain plug and still higher than the transmission crossmember. Lord, I even lowered my truck about 4" and use an deep sump transmission pan. YIKES!!
