Retaining Power to OEM USB with Aftermarket Radio

Recommended Posts

Ok, we have a 2014 Chevy Silverado LT with the 8" screen. We are looking to upgrade the radio to have Android Auto and whatnot, and every headunit seems to support up to two USB ports and any other USB ports would be dead. I have found this Axxess unit which seems like it could replace the in-console dual USB/Aux/SD Card piece, but what I'm unsure of is how we would route the cables through the center console and up into the radio area. I've seen some videos showing a full center console replacement, but those don't seem to show any cabling running the route I'm talking about.

As a side note, ideally we'd be able to power the three USB ports under the cargo lamp as well - just power, not data or connection to radio. But that I've found less info on how to accomplish and would welcome suggestions.

When I replaced my stock radio with one of the android based radios it came with the 2 USB plugs.  The existing USB plugs in the car still have power after the installation.  What was lost was that those USB plugs no longer "connect" items plugged into them with the radio.  They are now separated.  Not sure if that's what you were asking about.

Also I installed a USB plug similar to what you linked to but it is basically just an extension of the radios USB cables.  It fit in the cigarette lighter position in the dash which gave good access for connecting something via USB to the new radio.  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BDWVB4T9?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
