Oil Change

Recommended Posts

I'll have to take a look under the truck in case I start doing it myself when my freebies run out. Will probably still go to the dealer when its due during winter. I think my last few 1500's had the oil filter half over a skid plate.

Is there a gasket on the oil drain plug that needs to be replaced?

I dug and found my slip over style head for my grease gun i used to have to use for greasing the gimble barring on a boat i had. Not sure what they are called other than special heads, from my quick search.

Is slips over the head at a 90 degree side angle, so might make greasing the 3 hard to get ones easier, might not. Might work good on all 9, one way to find out.

Next time i grease ill do a thread with pics if it helps ease the job, as head to head is a pain for the,,, again, 3 hard mid ones. I dont drop anything, just reach up and fight the suckers.

I knew you would show up. Your attracted to oil and filter threads like a moth to a flame..

It is very good, of you to show up as well.

Flattery will get you....wait...hum....what do you want?

I did notice you didn't answer my question 😉 What 'Sets the Bar' for you when choosing an oil? You said Good so that implies something above minimum. How do you know?

I just greased all nine. Had heard you needed 90 degree grease fittings but they are not needed as you just turn the steering until it's clear above them.

I will never let anyone touch my truck to do an oil change...even once I am in my 70s.

There is but service manual says replace as necessary.

Drain plug torque is 18 lb ft

I dont think the 90 degree will work on the lower ball joints, theres limited space and they are on the side.

No need, they are easy to get to. I just turn my wheels to make it super easy.

Ill know when i grease next, one way to find out. I do know i do like the lockable tip, but it is a pain doing the top 3 so i had to put the normal tip on.

I will probably get a longer hose for my grease gun, as it will make greasing the camper suspension and pickup easier. I have/like the 2 handed gun vs the hand pump style.

On this rig, i look for gen1 dextros 3 on the container of weight needed and get it. I dont feel the need to stick to the same brand each time.

I do stick with my filter choice though.

I switched to a one handed pistol grip and a 24" hose. I am too old and too husky to fight with things. I miss having the air powered keg at work, some of our trucks had 25+ fittings on them, it teaches efficiency when theres that many.

Im only 60, but remember hand packing the gun from a 5 gallon pale of grease. That sucked..........  I grew up on a farm, all tractors and trucks type, no animals.
