1-2” drop shackles

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if adding 1-2” drop shackles will void any kind of factory warranty? I think I already know this answer of yes, but only if they can prove the shackles caused an issue with what is being found defective……

im buying a 2500HD and will be towing a small lightweight 5th wheel designed for a 1/2 ton. The truck may be too tall to tow it level. I’m looking for a way to lower the truck if needed but not cause any issues. Would you install 1-2” drop shackles? The pin weight on my 5th wheel is around 900 pounds.

im curious if this will affect pinion angle or cause vibrations…….

Hard to believe the pin height and chassis height of the trailer is going to have issues with your new truck. Have you actually measured the trailer and a truck to see if it's going to be an issue?

The pin weight really has nothing to do with clearances between the bed and the trailer itself. It will be the same no matter what the pin weight is for the most part although since the rear of the truck sits high from the start, you do have that "rake" to contend with. With my 800# bumper pull tongue weight and my Daco shell, the rake is gone. I use a WDH to get it back to level.

So I did make some measurements and from what I can see, I won’t be able to tow level. I know of three people “on the internet” with a 2500HD and my exact 5th wheel that are towing level. So it makes no sense to me. Here is a link to the one video I found online of a trailer just like mine where a guy talks about towing level. I must be missing something. I say this because from the ground to my kingpin is about 49”. The trucks bed floor is around 37” and the hitch is another 14”. That’s 51” , about 2” too high……so maybe the weight of the trailer brings it down 2” to level? He may still be a tad nose high though …. Here is that link.
