Hello, I got a 2023 Chevy 2500 Custom (6.6 gas). My question is I’m tired of having dealership do my oil when I’m more than capable. I love Amsoil on my old diesels but unsure what you all think? I get a discount from them so cost is fine and also what filter? Amsoil on that also?

I’ve read alot about catch cans on these motors? I had one on my old Cummins but I’m failing to see why on these? Should I add that to my list also? I’m at 11k miles

Amsoil is fine for oil.  5w30 in the 6.6 gas.  OE, XL or Signature series, all great options.

Filter, AC Delco UPF-63R or Wix WL10255 or WL10255XP are great options.

Catch cans.  I never ran one on my 2018 5.3.  The idea on gas engines though is carbon buildup because these are direct injection.  No fuel to wash the back of the valves/intake ports.  I've seen many engines opened without a can that looked good, but also some that didn't.  Those that didn't seemed to either have long oil change intervals with lower end oils, or were driven very pampered and never got a good ring seal.

Amsoil is ok if you can't find Mobil 1 readily accessible.  Okay that was just to stir the die hard Amsoil guys.....🤣  Any quality oil and filter does the trick, some are just a step above the others, just like gasoline and top tier gasoline, I always go for top tier even if it's a few cents more.

You can never go wrong using Amsoil products. But, use a reasonable oil change interval and you'll be fine with many of the top oils. It's all in how you feel about the products. I use Amsoil products for certain things.

M1 is not what it used to be, but still will perform well. Last I heard about off the shelf stuff Penzoil Ultra Platinum was the top performer

I have used both M1 and super tech full synthetic in my truck. I don’t notice a difference and never burned a drop of either. I don’t go over 4k mile oci so I’m not spending amsoil money although I did put amsoil severe gear in the rear diff. I also run amsoil in my motorcycle and atv.

For the OP. I can give a lot of info on putting a catch can on a L8T/6.6 gasser if you want to PM me i have pics.

Is it needed, absolutely not, does it do something yes. Mostly, when its cold, it sucks moisture out of the oil before it would get burnt off anyway. Warmer weather it doesnt catch much, but some moisture.

There was information i stumbled across wile researching catch cans for the motor that explained whats going on in the valve covers that it isnt needed.

Hear is a couple pics of the ( intake tube ) side that goes between the passangers side valve cover and the air intake box. Its easy to remove the tube. I did, tube was spotless as well as the connecting spots, note the clean Q tip swabs i swabbed the tube and connection points. So seems no oil or vapor is/was getting into the intake.

I installed the can one day before the first oil change at about 5,400 miles.

NOW, if you want my imput on using a HUBB reusable oil filter, i have that also, and really love it.

All good information posted.  If you are already getting the discount, I take it you are a Preferred Customer. Then why not keep it simple and use AMSOIL. Less having to have different brands.  The OE line is a great oil and the least expensive in a full synthetic.  If you want one that is a lesser cost then you can use the synthetic blend.

AMSOIL came out with the synthetic blend for the quick lube business's. It has over 50% synthetic stock in it and is a great choice if you change every 3k or earlier.

I use the OE line in a Hyundai Santa Fe, our daily driver. Like the oil and it stopped the adding oil  between oil changes. I was using Castrol Edge on 3K OCI's, adding a small amount before changing it. I think I was adding 6-12 ounces.

My truck sits a lot so I use Castrol, if it goes back into service it will get Amsoil OE.

I have used Amsoil oil in 3 motors, the Hyundai, a Honda ATV and a Kawasaki side by side. They are all quieter.
