2 or 3 inch lift questions

Recommended Posts

ok so I just bought some 285 Revos and now I want a 2 or 3 inch lift for better articulation. I know nothing so treat me with kid gloves but does someone have pics, prices and the best name to purchase? you can see my truck at my link on my signature to get an idea of what I'm working with.

WIfe says I owe her diamonds if I go through with this BUT hey it all costs money in the end right?

Thanks so much.

Only wanting a 2 or 3 inch lift, you only have a couple options. A bodylift or crank your torsion bars. If you crank your torsion bars you won't get as much articulation as you do now, so if that's what you are after that's probably not the best option. A Bodylift is not hard to do, just get some friends to help out and buy them some :P . Should be able to get everything put on in a weekend, maybe around 10-12 hours of work if you haven't done one before. I and my BIL put a 3" Performance Accessories (the best kit) on in about 5 hours, but I've done about 8 or so bodylifts. I'll be seeing him today, if you want a picture of his truck I'll get one. MountaineerTom has a 3" bodylift with a very good writeup, might search for his posts. The NBS trucks don't show the frame as much as my OBS truck did, that's why I had to get nerf bars , well that's what I told my wife. You can see some of my pics in my sig of my truck before and after the BL. I also made some custom gap guards for about 10$, much less than the $75 Perf. Acc. wanted for theirs. I'm sure others will chime in. If you have any questions just ask. Price wise, torsion bar crank (I wouldn't go any higher than 1.5") is about the cost of an alignment, but your CV's may wear faster(higher you go, the faster they will wear). The bodylift for your truck is about $240, but I've seen JCWhitney sell them for $215 if you use a 15% off coupon. Chris

I had 3" susp and 3" body on my 99 Ram... will never put a body lift on my trucks ever again!!! I will wait till I can afford a suspension lift for my Silverado! I just didn' feel comfortable with the whole body resting on 6 nylon spacers, when stock, the body rests on the frame rails and is secured in the spot where the spacers go.

The body does not completely rest on the frame prior to a body lift. It is still sitting on round steel and rubber spacers. The 3 inch spacers only lift it higher. I still have the same amount of points contacting the frame as before, it's just they are 3 inches higher. In fact, one of the bed supports was not even attached tot he frame prior to the lift. There is obviously more leverage on the bolts since the body is 3 inches higher, but I don't feel I'm in any danger or anything like that.

You may be right, but I know that when I put my body lift on, the body and the bed, on my Ram, rested on the rails and were secured at the sites you pointed out.

Oh, and don't get me wrong, I knew a ton of other guys that weeled hard core with the 3"body/3" susp set up I had... I just wouldn't ever do it again!
