AC Delco Oil Filter PF63... Questions on Filter Revisions....

Here's a TSB that explains the differences:

I figured internal bypass settings may be different but never looked at the PF48 so wasn't going to say and had no interest in looking it up.

As an aside, that is a TSB that looks as if written by a grade schooler. Look up the word 'tolerance' and compare with the word 'clearance'. Then explain to yourself, not out loud, what the heck that would have to do with a bypass setting. Hint, Nothing and a document meant to put words on paper to look like it means something when does not. Doesn't even make sense.

I have been using the WIX 57045 filter for several years on previous 6 L trucks, but unsure in the future. Is there anything from AC Delco that the increased number of holes IS to improve oil flow or just lightening the filter? I have contacted WIX including the pdf mentioned. I will report any response.

I think I recall when I was researching filters for the 6.6 that the wix(which I’ve used on many vehicles) had the wrong bypass psi. Something around 12-13psi vs the 22psi the 6.6 requires. They might have updated it by now though.

For the 6.6L, the Wix part number is 10255. It has the 22 PSI bypass.

I think the one thing the TSB is clear on is that the Gen. V LT V-8's require an oil filter with a bypass valve rating OVER 15 psi., like the AC Delco PF 63 and the Wix 10255.  Therefore, oil filters like the AC Delco PF48 and Wix 57060 and 57045 should not be used in those engines as they have a bypass valve rating of 15 psi..  Can you use a PF 63 in a Gen. IV LS?  It is not specifically recommended but I don't see where a slight increase in filter media area and a higher bypass valve rating would make much difference.

My nephew has a 2016 1500 w/ a 5.3 & it uses the WL10255 filter. Any idea what the WL prefix signifies? I know WIX has the XP suffix.

I'm assuming the Wix 10255 "XP" is also acceptable, correct?

Rockauto shows both the WL 10255 and WL 10255XP are O.K. for the 6.6L gas.  'WL' seems to be the prefix for all Wix oil filters, 'XP' is their extreme-duty line.

The 57045 filter doesnt have the WL prefix. Nor does the (I think) 51358 for my Polaris Ranger.

One interesting thing about the 6 WIX 10255 filters I have,,,3 are made in Mexico...3 are made in the USA. They all look identical.

When I went to exchange the 57045 I had bought, the 1st WL10255 I checked was made in Mexico, the 2nd filter was made in the USA. This was @ the same O'Reilly's store in New Hampshire.

If the specs & tooling are the same, they should look the same.
