Purchase advice used Silverado

Recommended Posts

Greetings everyone,

I just joined this forum because I would like to receive some advice about purchasing a Silverado. I live in Belgium and the choice for used American trucks is rather limited (mainly due to high price, 80-90k for the high country). I found 1 that is in my price range (40k) but it's a 2017 model. I read there are potentially problems with the transmission (wrong fluid from factory) as well as several recalls (welds on front suspension, problem with vacuum pump for breaks, airbag-problem,...)

Is there any way to check if the transmission could be having problems in the near future or if it was flushed/fluid+filter swapped. I also doubt the updates implemented during the recalls were applied, but just in case, is there a way to check this? I assume that if these were done by an official Chevrolet dealer, they would be mentioned in the maintenance manual, but since we don't have official Chevrolet dealers there is a chance this wasn't done.

Anything specific to the model I should give special attention if I go to inspect the car (I mean outside of the general things you look at in a car like leaks, cold start, pinging or ticking, rust,..)?

If everything works out I could become a fellow owner of GM-truck, albeit a long distance away from it's origin.
Kind regards,
Wouter

The transmission fluid issue is with the 8 speed. The dealer should have done a fluid flush if it was that transmission but if not, it can still be done.

YouTube is a good source for reviews & potential issues.
