“Automatic Shutdown - Disabled” - Always on??

Recommended Posts

Okay y’all - I have a tricky one.

Last week, I bought a pre-owned 22 LT with the refreshed interior. Love the truck and features and all that fun stuff.

As the truck only came with one key, I went to the dealership today to have the second key made as part of the deal.

I didn’t catch this when I left as the truck was driven up and brought to me and left on, but when I left and started going other places, I noticed now every time I start the vehicle, it says “Automatic Shutdown - Disabled”.

I’m aware of the feature but was reading that I’d have to do this every time I start the truck, but, it’s on by default now. I don’t mind the feature being on, but, now I have to dismiss the screen every time I start the truck.

I think it’s odd it started after getting a second key programmed and added, but, no idea why.

Anything I can do at home or is a trip to the dealer needed to reset this using a scan tool?

unless there some setting to change in the menu, back to the dealership

Yeah I could not find anything.  I'm sure the dealer can re-flash the computer to get it back to stock...just didn't want to if I didn't have to.

Automatic shutdown is standard -- but the dealer can change the programming if requested (for a fee?)

I'd guess the reprogramming to disable comes with that message -- so drivers are aware it's not the standard set-up.

Previous owner likely had the automatic shutdown (idle time out) turned off and the truck displays the message at startup when that feature is disabled.

Dealer can re-enable the automatic shutdown, at your expense.  TSB is 21-NA-228 and they can read that to see what they need to do if you want it set back to factory.

My truck is not listed in that TSB, as it's a '22 refresh...but, it only showed up when they went to program the second key...but, here's what I learned from the dealer yesterday...

When programming a new key or doing other things with the computer, there is a "security" window that you have to wait through to get things done.  It could be either ten minutes or over an hour.  The service guy said that when doing that, it will enable that feature for up to 24 hours so the truck doesn't turn off when doing programming of some sort.

It went away on it's own yesterday and hasn't been back on since.

Whether the dealer was right or not, who knows...but it's gone, and I'm able to turn it on as I wish for just a single ignition cycle, if needed.

That TSB covers 2019-2024.  It has all the model years listed, pre and post refresh.

Got ya!

The version I pulled up stopped at 2022...and 2022 was only the 2500/3500 - so probably just an older PDF.

Thank you for sharing it, though.

Automatic shutdown is the default setting; however, the dealer is able to modify the programming if the customer so desires (for a price, perhaps?).

In order to make sure that drivers are aware that this is not the typical configuration, I believe that the instruction to deactivate is included with that message.
