Refresh infotainment - Audio cutting out for 1-2 seconds at a time and other issues

Recommended Posts

I have a 24 1500 SLT with the refreshed infotainment, and have been having some issues:

  • Audio will frequently cut out for 1-2 seconds several times within the first few minutes of running. This has happened on to sources from USB and Android Auto.
  • After increasing my USB drive to about 15K songs, the truck indexed and used the flash drive as a source for a couple of weeks before basically just giving up. It acts as though no usb drive is plugged in now. I've purchased a USB M2 SSD to see if a speedier filesystem will improve this but have not tested yet
  • Offline maps disappear  - I am not paying a subscription to use my freaking navigation system, so I downloaded offline maps, and have done so several times. After a couple of weeks they disappear and my navigation shows nothing

interestingly enough, I did the Infotainment reset  by holding down the end call button to try and resolve these issues. After doing so, my speed limit indicator that is 100% populated by the cameras and not a database stopped working and my cluster shows nothing. I know people assume this data comes from a GPS database, but my observations tell me it's from the cameras based off of:

  • My rural, dead end street has a speed limit of 30MPH, but the sign is almost near the front of the road. My cluster used to show the limit as 55 (I'm guessing the default), until after I reached and passed the sign
  • I have noticed that if a sign is obstructed or too far from the road, the speed limit would not adjust when passing it.

For the audio cutting out issues, I've seen lots of people complaining about it on the refresh models, so I assume it's well known. I'm hoping there will be either a firmware fix or hardware revision before my warranty is up. Having such a glitchy system on a brand new and expensive vehicle is not ideal.

I'm one of those that is positive the speed limits come from a database and not from camera.

Many many many times I have driven in locations where the limit shown on the dash was wrong -- even though we had driven past signs that cameras would have been able to read.

There are several places in my 'usual' travel areas that speed limits have change and new signs installed.  The truck still displays the old speed limits.

I also drive some places often enough that I know where the speed limit changes.

Sometimes traffic is heavy enough that me and the camera don't get a chance to see the speed limti sign -- speed limit displayed by truck changes anyway.

No way speed limit is camera based.

I'm sure they must update the database (in the newer vehicles that use googlemaps ) from time to time.

Just do me a favor... don't respond to any post or comment I create. For some reason, you seem to be compelled to be contrarian on every comment. I don't care about your inaccurate assumptions about the speed limit readout. I posted this seeking suggestions for the audio cutting out. So.. yes, please, just ignore anything I post, since you seem to think whatever I post here and elsewhere is always wrong anyways.

@redwngr is correct. This gmc/Google system does not read signs. F150 does. It is using the Google database for speed limits.

You are the one that made a comment about the speed limit signs.

1 - There may be a radio update to fix the audio cut, and there likely is one available.  Give the dealer bulletin # 24-NA-100 and tell them you have audio drops, they will update to software Y172.

2 - USBs are finicky on the new and the pre-refresh radio.

3 - Offline maps.  They don't work how you think/want it to.  You MUST have the subscription active to use the Google built-in navigation.  Offline maps work ONLY when cell signal is lost, so if you have the subscription and it loses signal while driving, the "offline" maps will step in to support the signal loss and allow the navigation to keep routing you.  It is NOT an actual "offline" mode.  If you choose not to subscribe, use maps through Apple CarPlay/Android Auto instead.

From the owners manual:

Internet Connectivity

Google Maps relies on a subscription data plan for full functionality, including availability of offline maps. With an applicable connected services plan, Google Maps can be used offline when driving through connectivity dead zones by auto-downloading offline maps prior to going offline.

4 - Speed signs.  Its based on the navigation data.

From the owners manual:

Speed Sign Display

Shows sign information, which comes from a roadway database in the onboard navigation system, if equipped. The sign will show “− −” when offline maps are unavailable.

I'm not sure why you even to bother post.

You ask questions and then trash the responses of those trying to provide information regarding.

(not just my responses)

We're trying to help, but you are unwilling to accept help.

Clearly, GM's don't work the same as your beloved Benz vehicles.

Maybe you're should just switch back to them....
