2024 High Country 6.2 DFM noises?

Recommended Posts

So I’ve had my new 2024 High Country for 3 months now and it has 1,500 miles. Shortly after bringing it home I started hearing noises coming from under the truck and under the hood. First noise is a chirp heard on cold starts that lasts until the RPM’s stabilize then it will turn into a clicking noise that goes away when put into gear. The chirp can also be heard when in park idling, which made me think a belt somewhere but it also chirps when the truck downshifts from, presumably, 2nd to 1st gear around 14mph. It also doesn’t seem to happen when driving in manual mode in 9th gear, which as I understand it deactivates the DFM. So it leads me to believe it’s the lifters, for which the dealer said “just get a tuner and disable them”. For some reason hearing that come from a dealer service center just put a bad taste in my mouth. Pretty much sounds like them saying, yeah we know the lifters are ****** and make a ton of noise and fail but we can’t and won’t try and fix them.

Anyway it just came back from the dealer yesterday who said the clicking noise was the DFM solenoid and they are “surprised” by how much noise they make but no further action required. Do the solenoids really make a clicking noise? Or are my thoughts of it being more of a ticking time bomb for a faulty lifter more accurate? And as far as the chirping they said they didn’t hear anything and couldn’t reproduce the chirp while driving.  But of course I heard it on my way home. I told them I thought they might say that so I would record the noise and asked if next time I could drive with a tech to reproduce the noise.

Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill with these noises? Im the type of guy that won’t be able to just ignore the noises, I’ll just hear them every time and they’re going to annoy the hell out of me. I love the truck otherwise but I don’t think a 80k truck should be making these noises.

Your "Service Advisor" sounds like an idiot. There currently is no "tuner" to disable DFM on your 2024. A chirp on a cold start can be a belt squeaking but your "Service Advisor" didn't hear anything although the truck squeaked for you when you picked it up. Sounds like you need a different "Service Advisor" and a test drive with a Certified Technician.

By the way...there is a DFM Disabler out, but I WILL NOT recommend it at this point as it will void your warranty, kill your lifters eventually and also FAIL inspection where you live.

Check your spark plugs or injectors. Those can be the issue also. These engines are naturally noisy...so it would be wise to do a good checkup. FIND a proper technician that can help you also.

Being a direct injected engine, they do make a lot more noise than normal. But the chirping noise you are speaking of a lot of them seem to do. There is a TSB about it where GM says it's normal and says no repairs are needed. I know, it's dumb, but what can we do. The chirp on down shift can be remedied by driving in L9 as it is DFM related.

As far as the DFM disabler, Range just released one recently. Not sure about it killing your lifters and would love to know where and how that he got that info since it's been out maybe a week. As for warranty, that is why you remove it before taking it in. You wouldnt leave a Pulsar LT on when taking it in either.

If he is under warranty and there is an issue with the engine...they could use the disabler as evidence to void his warranty and force him to pay for the repairs.

Possibly.

I would get a 6.2 between 21-22 without auto start stop. I saw some for the first time. I wonder if those had DFM active...as there were trucks w/5.3 that did not.
