Torsion Bar Suspension Stiffness

In another forum, someone stated as the heavy duty's torsion bar suspension ages, the actual deflections of the torsion bar, over time, work hardens the bars to make them stiffer and for the truck to ride harder.

 

Seems like BS to me but wonder what others say.

Opposite, like any other spring, over time they can weaken/sag from wear and tear.

Work hardening is the result of plastic deformation or yielding of the metal.  The torsion bars are not loaded to the stress level where that would occur.
