DIY Services....How to make part of Vehicle Service History in GM system?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I performed the first two oil changes on my '23 3500HF Gas.

First at 522 Miles (per manual) 0n 9-7-23

Second at 2002 miles after towing 800 miles with travel trailer (7000#) 1-5-2024

I now have approx. 2900 miles.  It is now approx. 6 mo. since last oil change.

I can take it in for the complimentary first GM oil change / service, since the service indicator on dash is now displaying "service due" as well as email reminders from GM  that first service is due.

Is there a way to have the first two oil changes entered into the GM system to indicate services performed by owner?

I am abler to enter DIY services on Toyota owners platform, but I am unable to find where it can be done on GM site.

Thanks!

It's under vehicle profile...

Then click on the round button labeled service history. You will be able to add a service...

Update....

I noticed after entering the two services performed as "self," (GM App) there was one service that was dealer performed by dealer but was not visible in the GM app.  I called GM and was told that the app functions, that provide service history, were only available for 90 days from purchase date.  So all dealer services performed will not been by the app, nor will any other functions, such as remote start.

The app still works on my phone and I am able to enter service history.  But if app is not connected to dealer, what good is it, even if I enter the missing dealer service history that occurred after app expired?  Dealer is unable to see self performed maintenance data since vehicle was new.

There are GM App plans for purchase:

$24.99 for all functions

$14.99 for limited functions (minimum plan needed for service history by dealer to be  visible in app.

Since I have a basic SLE truck, not sure there many benefits for me, even under the basic $14.99 plan???

Not too happy that GM charges for this basic app has a recurring monthly fee.

Are members here paying for this app?

If so, what benefits do you see as worthy even for a basic SLE truck?

Thanks

So you can enter them in the app (which I've never done or honestly knew you could) but any services you do won't register in GM's system.

So your first free oil change from GM, if it was never done and won't ever be done will just expire and show no history of it being done.

GM VIN history will only document warranty related services.  Customer pay (and warranty) would be on file at the dealer, and DIY would be up to you to keep receipts in the event they are needed for warranty repairs.

I will take it to dealer next week for the complimentary first maintenance service.  I changed oil 6 mos ago, with only 1075 miles since that service.  Oil is ready to be changed due to time, rather than miles.  I guess I want the GM dealer service so there is a record that it was serviced during their suggested time/mileage frame.

If they enter that service into GM system I will not see it in my app since I am not paying the app fee.  I can enter it manually, I suppose, which is what I do anyway on a google doc.

I'm wondering if the pay fee for the app has some objective value, personal or otherwise.  Website it not very clear on what you receive specifically, for the app fees.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a clipboard for each vehicle including my trailer. On the first few pages is a running list of what has been done, parts/supplys used and mileage/hours. Behind that I keep receipts and dated instruction sheets for items I have added, TSB's and stuff like that. They can get thick after some years, buyers love them when you sell.
