Clean behind your lower front fenders!!

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Saw a leaf when I opened the door so I went to remove it and decided to pull up on the matting and saw a large amount of old leaves and dirt and twigs. Perfect spot to decay and make rust. Just sharing with those who want to take care of your trucks. I have owned every generation of Sierra starting with a 1990 Sierra GT (yes I am aging) and this is the first time I had this much accumulation of old vegetation in the fenders. Pic is just from driver side, but the passenger side was just as bad.

Cut off some of the bottom of the insulation mat. Like 3-4 inches of it. It will stay wet for days after rain or washing. Common issue on all GM vehicles, had to do it in all of my vehicles in my signature line.

Makes it easier to clean out also.

Sorry for being clueless but can someone help me figure out exactly where this is happening on the vehicle and be more specific about where you open it up to look/clean out?

Open the front doors and look inside past the door hinges. You will see a sound deadening insulation pad that runs from top to bottom inside. Pull the bottom of the pad out, you will see the mess trapped inside the fender.

I've been a Chevy guy all my life. But there are some things that make me scratch my head. I dealt with ground issues on my old Chevy 60's and 70's cars, and I still see countless 2000+ "cyclops" Chevy trucks going down the road with one side or the other of the running lights out in the front. Also, with all the rusted out fenderwells of the early 70's trucks you would think that institutional memory would enable GM to avoid making the same mistakes over and over. I guess the same could be said for or questioned about me though, I still like my Chevy's.
