Cleaning out fuel evap charcoal canister filter

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Preparing for a long trip in a very, very dusty area so removed the charcoal canister filter and cleaned it out and then added an extra layer of protection (old t-shirt). When I get back from the trip, I’ll probably remove the old t-shirt layer.  I was surprised how dusty and dirty and how much material was in the filters. Basically there’s four snap tabs for the fuel filler cover and then it just wiggles out and then the filter housing is held in place by one push in plastic tab. Also added a fuel filler cover…again because it’s really dusty where I am going.  A lot of times these will clog up and if you’re filling up your fuel tank and it keeps clicking off, this is the culprit. Will also set off a P0446 CEL.  Some have also relocated them but i’m not at that point yet.
