24' Silverado RST Z71 6.2 v8 Lifter failure!!!

Recommended Posts

So add another L87 6.2 v8 with lifter failure to the list. Approximately 2100 miles. Started with intermittent lifter tick for 2 to 5 minutes on cold start every morning. Took it to the dealer and verified the lifters were failing. My 3rd Brand new GM vehicle with lifter failure before the 1st oil change. 2022 SS Camaro, 2021 GMC Sierra 5.3 and now my 2024 6.2 Silverado. Previous vehicles they changed all lifters when failure was before 8000 miles now they say just the lifters on that bank. Anyone know when that changed? I opened a case and told them I EXPECT and extend components coverage letter for a serious length of period. If not I will never buy another GM product. GM get rid of these Garbage ass lifters. You are not saving fuel with this bullshit or auto start stop.

My 1st 6.2 replacement total price w/labor, engine, and the other miscellaneous parts was approx 14.2K.  GM "graciously" allowed me to pay $1,500.  The failures with these engines just on this site are widespread.  Imagine how many others on other websites and then individuals that don't even bother taking their fristration to the internet.  So yes, I could only imagine how much this is costing them.  Not just in $$$$,$$'s, but in future customer loyalty.

You can thank the Govt for pushing this crap onto GM.

Rumors are that they are pushing this failed concept for the 6.6 L8T but GM is pushing back.

If you think this isnt widespread you may want to take a look at the appliance industry. Its a very similar trainwreck.

I question the wisdom of building unreliable engines that fail prematurely in the name of conservation. It would seem to me that whatever miniscule value it has to energy use is more than wiped out by the fact that the engines require replacement which means a lot of resources get used to build. ship and install the new one. There doesnt seem to be a lot of big picture thinking these days.
