2024 Silverado 2500HD LT with 18" wheels: tire upgrade?

Recommended Posts

I'm ordering a 2500HD LT with the 18" wheels that come in the sport package. The OEM tires are 275/70-18 so 33.2" diameter, 10.8" width.

From what I can tell, GM has chosen tires that simply do not fit the aesthetic of the truck. The OEM tires basically have no side cleat at all -- they look like all-season car tires. Plus the 20" wheel variant of the truck comes with 275/65-20 so 34.1" diameter. I don't want 20" wheels but I would like the tires to be larger and look more like an actual truck.

I'm considering moving to either

  • 285/70-18 which is 33.7" diameter and increases width to 11.2"
  • 295/70-18 which is 34.3" diameter and increases width to 11.6"

I don't think the 285's would be problematic (does anyone disagree?).  And while the 295's height is very close to the OEM 20", I'm concerned the extra ~1" of width causing issues without a lift which I don't want to do.   The 2500 ZR2 package actually comes with 305/70-18s on the same wheels, but it has a minor lift, so I don't think I can compare apples to apples for rubbing etc.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Every truck is a little different but I have 35x12.5r17 Toyo AT3s on mine without a lift or any suspension adjustments. No rub. Your 295 should fit fine IMO.

35s with no lift?  Wow.  We're talking about the same generation of truck right? (I guess must be, I'm in the 2020-2024 forum)

Anybody have pictures of 35s on a stock 2500?

Actually and if so, also wondering if you tow with it and if that potentially has ever caused rubbing.

35s on stock. 37s on ZR2s. Depends on wheel offset mostly which is hard to find specs for stock GM wheels. I have ZR2 suspension and 37x12.5 and graze the rear frame a hair at full lock but its due to the (unknown) wheel offset of my Alaska Edition 18x8s. A stock ZR2 wheel (18x9 I think) doesn't have an issue with 37s and the 1.5" ZR2 lift according to all the people at the ZR2 forum.

Don't want to derail your thread Vectaur but I'm not sure I want to take my wheels in the bush for hunting and fishing adventures . Get in a mud hole and those nice alloy wheels are going to get scratched  to hell . I already have some scratches on one of the front wheels, how I haven't a clue so Im looking at wheel shops to see if they can buff them out as its seems only through the clear coat . I know don't be so picky  it's a truck and you will get a lot more but man we just bought the truck .
