usb won't power my radar detector does anyone have a work around

I did not notice that my 2024 Silverado had no 12volt convince plug for my radar detector. When I did finally figure out it was not hidden but just non existent I ordered a usb that was supposed to convert from 5v to 12v to power my escort radar detector. I tried 2 different cords neither would even power up the unit. Does anyone know of a cord or a link to that cord that works. Is there a work around that will not void my warranty with chevy that anyone is aware of I was told if I hard wired it in I would void warranty but could pay stealership to do it without voiding warranty. Is anyone aware if I use the c charging port if that will work.

My understanding is the usb while the cord does convert to 12v the amperage is to low for the radar detector to operate, this is also why it won't charge an I pad as well I am being told. In my opinion chevy really screwed this up

This. As long as you wire it correctly there should be no issue with the warranty. Of course this varies from dealer to dealer and can be dependent on your relationship with yours. Mine is on an HD and I used a fuse tap on the right side dash fuse block to add a 10a fused power. I ran this by someone I know that is a GM electrical expert and he gave it his blessing.

12v power ports are a thing of the past now in the USB world. Doesn't Escort make a power cord that can be hard wired and thin enough to be concealed? Check their site. My Valentine 1 has kits for that.

I have a "cigarette lighter" plug in my '21 Denali. Isn't that 12v?

The refreshed T1's eliminated the 12v "cigarette lighter".

The "void warranty" thing is a load of crap. They cannot say it immediately voids your warranty. If they determine your modification causes a BCM failure or similar, then that action would void the warranty for the BCM, and yet you would still have warranty remain for everything else (say wheelbearings or shuddering transmission). That is pure fear.

It is a simple thing that can be done and can be found online (Escort provides harnesses as does Amazon). I have done this, BUT, I do understand electricity extensively and if you have any reservations, then pay someone to do it. Done wrong, and it can be a bad day for everyone.
