Engine badge flaking off.

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had this issue?  Is it common?  I noticed today that the engine badge is flaking.  It’s the badge at the back of the front fender that presents which engine the truck has.  Mine is a 5.3.  As I was wiping down the truck today after a wash, I noticed this.  The truck is just 3 years old (just out of the base warranty but I still have a GM extended warranty.  I’ll be checking to see if it’s covered.  See picture.  I marked in red a line where you can see the delamination and circled in yellow the worst area but, it’s all over both badges.

Had the same thing on my 21 Sierra 6.2. Dealer replaced it  under warranty.

Hopefully it will still be covered under my extended warranty. Ugh, I just past three years in March. Only 32k miles.

Just read a copy of my extended warranty.  Not surprisingly, it’s not covered.  Molding is not covered and called out in the excluded items area in the contract.  Stupid me, thinking bumper to pumper included everything between the bumpers.  Obviously not something like a brake pad but a decal isn’t exactly a wear part.  I’m due for an oil change pretty soon, I’ll see if I can convince them to make it right.

Yes moldings and paint work are not covered under an extended warranty or wear and tear items. Maybe your dealer would be nice and good will it seeing as your close to the original one, but if they so choose, they can deny it as they are not obligated to cover it.

Does this badge inlay?? Can it just be removed as imo they are pretty large and ugly.

Yes, it’s inlayed into the top of the front fenders.  However, you make a good point.  If it needs to come off, maybe a better looking aftermarket badge can go there, or possibly, nothing.

Looks like it is held in by clips so something will have to go there. They do have a bunch on E-bay for a bit over a hundred a piece, OEM ones.

Yeah, held by clips and they aren't that fun to get to unless you have small wiry arms. I replaced mine with some from iKonic, the LED ones. I ended up braking one tab on each trying to get the OEM's off. The furthest one back is a bugger
