BCGM Truck Purchased

Recommended Posts

The mod for the trans dipstick is only for the 6L90 trans. There are no provisions for one on the 2024 10L1000

I did devise an easy and inexpensive way to fill the 10 spd that doesnt require pumping fluid up into the fill plug.

What would that be?

I bought an M18-1.5 male hose barb with a 1/2" nipple on it. This screws into the fill plug hole on the side of the trans. I then connect a 4 ft length of 1/2" vinyl clear hose to the barb and fish it up under the hood where the trans dipstick should be. This allows me to fill the trans the same way I would if it had a dipstick. Simple and inexpensive.

The hose barb I got on Amazon and the clear hose I already had. You have to make sure the hose clears the exhaust since the truck needs to be running to get an accurate fill level.

Enjoy

Like any insurance its highly personal and based on your tolerance for risk. If you made the decision to buy it then you clearly thought it out.

I will say this though, a lot of what is said in the finance managers office is fear mongering and hyperbole.

The dealer makes a nice chunk of money on these

They are all about the "fine print"

The GM warranty is often mischaracterized and downplayed, an example would be that a lot of tiems are covered well past the 3yr/36k mile warranty under the emissions warranty. Although the Metric version up where youre at may be different I suspect its similar to the SAE version down here LOL

I personally have never bought one but my background and resources are such that I would be throwing my money away.

Best of luck

Scott

I have bought two extended warranties in my life. The first one was for my Lexus and it gave the entire premium back after 5 years if I still owned the car and I never used the insurance. I guess they rely on people not keeping their cars. Needless to say, I got all my money back.

The second was a $700 warranty for my 2018 F-150. I was a little worried due to the fairly new electronic systems on the truck. I purchased it through my Credit Union. Factory warranty was over $2k.

Dealers make a boat load of money off these warranties which is why they sell them. I self insure. The money I have saved over the years by not buying warranties could easily buy me multiple new replacement engines.

If I was buying a new Duramax (which I am not) I would likely buy it due to the complexity and insane costs to repair these. Fortunately the gas truck works for me.   The new models will have even more complex after treatment systems and will no doubt increase the repair costs. Rumors of the 8.3 seem to be focused on tighter emissions and the U.S. Govt is breathing down GM's neck.

agree on the warranties, plus you can buy them closer to when original is about to expire and their negotiable @ dealership....funny how when you refuse them the price keeps getting cheaper on 2nd, 3rd and 4th try

anything the dealer is pushing hard is a huge profit earner for them....

had a circus show with F&I manager on my last purchase.....the crap he tried to pull was nothing short of fraud....I was actually impressed with the bs he came up with.....

understandable for those that sleep or feel better to have one.......cant put a price on that

Would you fellas recommend I just keep all my questions to our truck in this thread ? Or post up in threads that pertain to a certain forum subject ?

Thanks

On another note the Linex application is complete and seems very well done .

Love driving this truck but hope the gas mileage improves ,having said that I knew it would not be great !

you fellas down south pay quite a bit less for you fuel . Right now Greater /Vancouver B.C. are is $2.00 a liter . If you drive a little farther out you can shave off some cents once your out of the GVRD .

Including the currency exchange, that's around $6US/gallon.

To be honest, fuel prices are such a tiny part of my overall expenditures, fuel prices are not even on my radar.

If my math is correct at current prices up here it will cost me $272.00 to fill up

Also our gallon is a bit larger than a US gallon   4.5 Lt.  to a Canadian gallon     4.5 Lt X $2.00 per Lt .
