New Oil Filter Design

I was at the dealer the other day picking up an oil filter for my 5.3L truck and noticed that the oil filter has a new design. 

 

Does anyone know when these were implemented? Do we know why this was switched to this new design, or has this design been around for awhile (usually been using wix XP or Amsoil filter)? I do see that it has the E-core.

Probably a new Mfgr. for them. I stopped using Wix when Mann bought them. I had issues with filter gasket sealing on my 3.6 motors and my old 5.3 Tahoe. I only use AC UPF63R filters now.
