sticker includes everything except doc fee, TTL and addendums

I shotgun emails to several dealerships...10-20 and usually high volume ones but some smaller ones if they are advertising lower price than normal.....back and forth weed out the ones that just want to be difficult, narrow it down to few and go back and forth on price a few times and finally come to an agreement.....it takes bit of time and work

drive out and pick it up, in and out of the dealership in under an hour

bought several last few years and have a decent system going for purchasing....best part is I do it from home

paid 68k for 23 High country 2500 gas last April and sticker was 73.6k, I had to pay bit more in TTL than I originally thought back home in California but still pretty good considering dealers close to me were 5k over MSRP

you can find them, that same dealership is offering 5k off 24  models now while locally its MSRP.......look around and youll probably find some deals

Thank you for your reply DUNN!

That's the key. I've had sales people look me dead in the eye and tell me they wouldn't drive an hour to save thousands, we're your local dealership! I did the shop around thing with lots of emails, phone call, and a few visits, ended up working with a dealership 3 hours away.

To be fair to the local dealership in this case, they told me straight away (this was a year ago) that they had such a line for '24 HD's, based on their limited allocations I should either wait for a '25 or go elsewhere, which was actually kinda refreshing.

Also, shop around for service. There are two places closer, but I drive an hour each way.

Thank You Chwilliams

Exactly what I do. Email a bunch of dealers as far as I’m willing to drive and about 80% reply to come in or play other games via email and I immediately trash those emails and concentrate on the few who want to earn my business.
I won’t even step foot into the dealership without something firm in writing as to the breakdown of price.

in and out quickly once I do go in.

Thank You Pryme

I have bought a few trucks that were dealer trades. One came from Chicago, one from Ohio and one came from the dealer in the town I live in and was delivered by a dealer 20 miles away (The only time I have bought from the dealer in my town was when my son sold vehicles there for a few years)

I have always been eligible for GM employee pricing through family members so that makes the issue of price a lot easier. Most dealers make their real money in the finance managers office selling paint sealants, Scotchgard, wheel insurance, gap insurance etc etc etc. I don't buy any of it so that also simplifies things. My credit union participates with them also.

I built a trust with a saleperson over 30 yrs ago and he has gotten all of my business with the exception of the 2 my son sold us.

Since I’ve been buying new trucks for work. My first new one in 1991. I’ve bought off the lot mostly when there’s deals or specials. My last new one before retirement was on 12/31/13. Last day of their year. I save 15K on a 14 Texas edition. Same with my cars for the most part. The last new car was a 2017 Camry. A redesign was coming out. This was a leftover I got 10K off. It’s been awhile but those deals are back if you are flexible. As far as service. It doesn’t matter in my experience traveling. It’s money to them.

The dealer I'm going to look at is a few hours  hours away and is having some sort of sale going on . Will have to see how it goes .

Do you think there's  deals to be made by paying cash ?

I'm not sure how that all works when they offer interest at a lower rate than what you can get it from the bank ?

When they offer financing is that built into the price the dealer will be asking ?

As the prices I see advertised in Canada are MSRP . I'm pretty sure MSRP is just that ,what GM thinks they should charge.

You walk on to the lot there's the factory sticker and the MRSP lists $70,000.00 is that just the starting point before the dealer adds on their markup  I have not bought new in 30 years or so .

I have read that some say you ask what the out the door price is and go from there ?

Maybe someone who is savvy could break it all down for me I will have more questions

All replies welcome !

they want the financing so cash doesnt hold any weight....if its the truck you want and youve seen them, drove them than all thats left is price......they are discounted here in the states,  not everywhere but there are quite a few......3-5k seems totally reasonable

1 dealer may not need the sale where another desperately does....just depends

there is always another truck and dealership

I wouldnt even go to the dealership unless I was picking it up.....you want the deal to be pretty much done before goig in.....starting the deal at the store is not the best way to get a good deal....

if you want a discount you have to throw the nunber out, dont expect them to do it, may even take a few days for them to respond or even a few back and forths over a week.....sales are slower right now, so 3-5k seems very reasonable......see how long the truck has been sitting too.....True car and few others will give that info up

#1   Dunn you are saying 3K to 5K , what are referencing  that amount to ,sorry ?

. When you say they are discontinued in the States do you mean you can no longer order a 2024

2500 HD ?

#2  Also stock is very limited locally as to what  we would like ,locally it either the wrong color either white or white and is a Diesel instead of a 6.6 Gas or its an upper level trim class . We would really like a Custom Trim Level .

The dealer that is 3 hours away has aproxx .  5 trucks that will arrive at the end of April  or begining of May .

#3  We have not test drove one as of yet so of course we want to do that first .

They have this option / policy that you can work out the deal and hold a truck before it arrives , then subject to a view and test drive  . Not sure I like that ?

#4  I want to test drive one firs, then if we like the ride and feel of the 2500 HD maybe go the above route mentioned that they offer . I'm thinking a 2500 HD is 2500 HD as long as its a 6.6 gas and is the Custom Trim Level . Would you agree ?

I know I have asked a lot of questions but Im wanting to make the most informed decision possible . Hope you fellas understand

When I look at YouTube videos of USA Dealerships they seem to have a lot more inventory compare to where I live in Canada . Probably due to population

If they have allocation, can you order one?  If you ordered, can you wait a bit for it?

As far as rides go, there would be a slight difference in 4x4 vs Z71, and possibly with or without plow prep.  The other difference in ride would be wheel/tire combo.  To me, having driven many over the last couple years, they all ride within 98% of each other given all the configurations.

If you wanted the closest truck to a Custom trim level to test drive, find an LT or LTZ that has 20" wheels on it as the Custom uses the 20" wheel.

The 3-5k he is referring to is 3-5k off msrp. Dunn sounds just like me when it comes to dealing with dealers. I will not go in to the dealership unless I’ve got terms I agree with. Unless I’m just going in to drive something etc.

as to finding a starting point, because like he said, they are not going to just blurt out “ok ok we will take another 3 grand off the sticker” without reason to.

I do a nationwide search for trucks the same or nearly the same as the one I’m looking for. You will always find trucks discounted lower than the one at your local dealer. I will usually contact that far away dealer to verify the price and make sure there are no hidden traps and if the price seems legit, I’ll use that lower price to figure out how much I’m willing to go to. Because I know they can get there.

I’ve finally said “ok get back to me if you can work it out” and on one occasion I recall the “mgr” reaching out with “what do we need to do to get this done” which resulted in an agreement being made. I won’t go into the dealership without them emailing me a purchase contract.

when I was 20 years old I had the worst experience of my life, not mowing anything and being sweated by two guys at a table going over the four corners routine talking about monthly payments and having them go and come back countless times for hours it was a nightmare. Never again did that happen to me.

3-5k off MSRP here

and yeah go test drive one first, doesnt have to be the one you buy.....

you could order one like mentioned

I would get the LT over the Custom just for the new interior....totally worth extra $1800 or whatever it is now

I didnt test drive the truck I bought but I am kinda like that with most things, lol...... I already knew I didnt want the Ram or Ford so didn't have much choice......

LOL, I have been that guy too

it was 100% my fault and said never again.......I was timid, unsure, believed they were working and lacked confidence in purchasing big items......however I would grind over new surfboard, lol

.driving hours and hours to start a negotiation is not going to go well.....they know you arent going anywhere

maybe purchase in state of Washington or USA if possible and register back in B.C......have had quite a few offers from dealers up that way

the biggest factor on getting a good deal is going to be YOU and how you handle yourself......the truck is just the "item" you happened to be purchasing
