Does anyone have any good tire recommendations for a 20-inch rim? I need something that can handle about 1000 lbs of payload full-time. I have a set of Pirelli's on the truck right now and they're almost bald with 19000 miles on them.

I can't speak for one brand or another, but I'd consider upping to a higher load tire.  Probably an E load, maybe P extra load?  D or E would maybe be the way to go.

You will have to play around with tire pressures a bit, but you have to set the tire pressure to the proper PSI to equal or exceed the load capacity of the stock tire.  So if you stay 275/55R20 which are likely 33-35psi, an E Load tire would need to be set to.  So a P275/55R20 at 35psi has a load capacity of 2403lbs.  So in E load in the same size, you need to run about 65psi give or take.

Some E loads below.

Kumho Road Venture AT52 | LT275/55R20 | Tire Rack

Continental TerrainContact A/T | LT275/55R20 | Tire Rack

Falken WildPeak A/T3W | LT275/55R20 | Tire Rack

Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT | LT275/55R20 | Tire Rack

I'm a fan of the Falken Wildpeaks AT3/W tires and have had many trouble free miles on them. I'm also a happy customer of Discount Tires and their prices are pretty close to what Tire Rack shows but if there was an issue, it's much easier to go that route than to try and deal with returning or warranty issues.

I have the 275/60R20 XL (but I think you want the 275/55R20) and not the LT version and they are advertised of a max load of around 2833 a tire which works out to 11,332 lbs max load and Chevy advertises their Silverados at right around 7200 lbs including cargo which gives a 4100 lb buffer and that would work. Bad news is they discontinued the AT3/W but now have an AT4/W in a regular or LT version. Surprisingly the regular version has a higher load capacity than the LT but either one has at least a 3600 lb max load capacity over the Silverado weight so either would work.

One thing to consider is that IIRC, LT tires usually have stiffer sidewalls which usually means less flex and a "firmer" ride. This is why I haven't switched to an LT tire. I prefer a slightly softer ride.

Just make sure to verify max load capacity for whatever tires you choose and then you can figure out if they will work for you. Also make sure to check the door sticker to see how much payload you can actually carry. The amount of passengers also figures into that. A 1000lb payload especially in my Silverado wouldn't leave a lot of wiggle room for much else.

I've been running the Cooper's and I like them a lot.  Affordable, great traction up here in Canada.  I run tons of highway clicks on them and they last pretty good.  Just my 2 worthless Canadian pennies.

Same on my Sierra, I'm overloaded with an empty trailer or 4 people in the cab. 3/4 ton will be my next truck but thats at least 3-4 years away
