17 Silverado no power to backup camera or lights

Recommended Posts

Looking for some advice on diagnosing rear camera and backup lights issue that seems to be common on these.

I’ve confirmed there is no power at the fuse box for the backup lights and all the other fuses were checked.

Bulbs are good, checked some connectors in the rear by the spare and at the camera connection in tailgate. Also cleaned and put die electric grease.

I did notice come buildup of fuzz and leaves behind the glove box by the cabin filter when I checked the connection at the HMI unit.  I did notice that when I had the hmi out of its spot the backup screen went from blue to black for second then never happened again.  Is there a way to test the HMI or are there any grounds I should check behind glove box by HMI?   I don’t want to just throw a new camera in it and hope that’s it.
Also just to mention it’s a flood salvage truck that has never given me any issues but I also live in the rust belt so I’m thinking it’s maybe a ground.   But also maybe the fuse box or HMI.   Any help is greatly appreciated   Thanks all ✌🏼

Hey Thanks for reaching out. I’m pretty sure it’s a ground issue too but I don’t know where else to look.   I’m pretty sure a bad camera wouldn’t cause a no power situation at the fuse box correct?  And if it was ground it would keep blowing the fuse right?   I could be wrong but just what I’m thinking    Thanks again

1. Don't throw a camera or HMI module at it.

2. Bad grounds do not blow fuses.

3. Is the engine running and in R when you are checking the fuse?

4. With engine running and in R you should have B+ at fuse F7DL in the left IP fuse box and at F33UA in the under hood fuse block.

 5. The back up lamps have nothing to do with the HMI but the back up lamps and camera get power from the same fuses. The camera has an additional power feed.

Start with that.

@tbarn

Thank you for the information.  Makes sense.

I definitely have no power at fuse 15 and 33 from what I read are related to backup lights.    This is with engine running and in reverse   One of them was popped from the beginning of this issue but now no power at all to these fuses.   Should I check fuse number 7?   Sorry I’m not sure which one is the  fuse F7DL you are referring to

thanks again.
