Climate Control

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is a troubleshooting issue or not so I placed it in general topics.

The truck has dual climate controls which can be synced or independently controlled. As I usually am the single occupant, I leave it on sync. Due to the weather, the temp has been set to 22 C (not sure what that is in F).

Today, the wife and I went on a bit of a drive and after a few minutes, she changed her side to 24 to warm up her side. My side remained at 22.

After another few minutes, I noticed my side was obviously cooler than it was prior to the change in the passenger side temp. I actually held my hand at the driver side dash vent and I definitely felt cool air (cooler than what it was when both sides were at 22). We both moved our hands back and forth between the two sides and the drivers side felt to us like the AC was turned on to a mild setting. It was like the passenger side was robbing the warmth from the drivers side to raise the passenger side temp.

To confirm, I lowered the passenger side back down to 22 and held my hand on the drivers side vent. Over a number of seconds, I felt the air in that vent grow noticeably warmer. The wife noticed it as well, so it did not appear to be my bias. Once stabilized, the temp felt the same on both sides.

Is this normal (can't believe it would be but....) and/or has someone else noticed this issue? Not wishing to visit the dealership until I have some supporting information.

Just guessing here, but since the passenger side temp was raised just inches away, the driver's side will make up for the rise in temperature by cooling down some to maintain the temperature you have chosen.

A Chap, thanks for the response.

Although this may be the case, to my uneducated (on this topic) mind, wouldn't this send the temp control system down a bit of a schizophrenic rabbit hole. Drivers side lowers the temp to compensate for the passenger side raising, and the drivers side cools a bit, which causes the passenger side to raise even more to compensate for the overlap from the drivers side....... and on and on. Eventually both reach the same temperature..... as if they are synced.

Normal.  22C = 72F, 24C = 75F.  You can even test this on a brand new one on the lot.  The dual climates have always functioned like this.

Thanks new dude,

If they are supposed to work like this, it seems to defeat the dual control aspect. If I set the drivers side to 72 and the passenger then sets her side to 75, I shouldn't expect my side to go lower than 72. Just doesn't make sense to me.....

Logic dictates a small little truck can can’t be two different temperatures 2 feet apart so the only way to make it FEEL like two different temperatures is to blow a bit cooler air on one side since the heat is obviously moving out of the other “zone”

Run a space heater in a 300sf room. The heat will be 10ft away in no time let alone 18” away.

I’ve always chuckled a bit at dual zone climate control

I never understood dual zone in a vehicle, I have it as its just part of the truck but In a single open space 2 feet apart its kind of ridiculous....

Ps: Every day playing geometry dash world will help you improve your music game playing ability.

I think it has a problem with the air temperature redistribution system when the dual controllers are set to different temperatures.
