Stock Powersteps Behavior Modification

Recommended Posts

When "enabled" in Settings, the Powersteps deploy whenever you open a door. This is great when you go to enter the vehicle, but if you only want to reach in and get something, it's a real PITA, or Pain in the Shin!

I know I'm reaching here but it would be nice if there was a way to program something into the keyfob and/or door handle button. Like, press keyfob unlock twice, or hold it to NOT depoly the steps or vice versa, or something along those lines. Anyone know of a way, or made a hack, or whatever?

Me, too, but it's hard to reach into the cab and grab things because now you're 15" further back. If you stand on them, it's then hard to bend down. It would be cool to be able to open doors without them opening when you need to.

I usually extend them just before shutting truck off, they stay out and don't cycle till dropped in gear again.

Mine don't work that way. Mine extend when opening door, and close shortly after door closes. If I keep pressure on them when the "timeout" occurs, they stay extended.

But, that's not what I'm looking for. I want to be able to control them somehow, so I can have them stay in when I open a door to make reaching in to get things a little easier, but also have them extend when I actually want to get in.

That's a great idea! Now, how do I find out whether or not interrupting the power to the steps like that would not throw a code? I would think it shouldn't, but if it does, I'm opening up a can of worms.

Looks to me that with this device I would only need to interrupt one wire instead of two like they show in their diagram, right? If so, where do you suggest I look next to figure out which wire to interrupt?

OK, I thought about this a little more, and I guess the least complicated thing is to be able to retract the steps from outside the vehicle when the door is still open. Any creative ideas?
