3.0L Duramax Oil Options

Gents I have a question. 

 

I am gearing up to do my first oil change and I am looking at options for oils. The GM dexos oil is approx 85$ for oil and a filter. Can I run any 0w-20 oil that has the dexos logo on the jug?

 

This is what I found.

It must specifically be Dexos D rated, can't just use any regular Dexos oil.

I used to use amsoil but the stuff is super expensive unless you are a dealer, then it's just expensive. Plenty of alternative oils out there do just as well and are cheaper.

I just get the AC Delco brand off Rock Auto along with the PF66 filters.  Even with their shipping charges, still cheaper than anywhere else

Local Autozone carries the correct Mobil 1. It's around $11 a quart.

Amsoil is better oil IMO and about the same price with a membership as Mobil.

I used to be a dealer. Their pyramid scheme is pretty janky and I am not interested in doing any Scientology stuff. 

 

im not arguing that its bad, It's good stuff. It was the best when it first came out but oil technologies have come a long way and there are a lot of similar or better oils on the market that are a heck of a lot cheaper.

My thoughts exactly. Amsoil is good stuff but they are no longer the king of the castle when it comes to oil. It's 2024 now, technology and oil development is leaps and bounds better than it was 15-20+ years ago.

 

I still use Amsoil for certain things but I don't go out of my way to spend more money if I don't need to.

You must have missed my post where I said I am not interested in joing the Amsoil pyramid scheme.
