Climate Control Buttons and Knobs No Longer Working

Recommended Posts

First, complete honesty:  It's either my fault or completely coincidental.  Nonetheless, I could use an assist here.

As some of you may know, I'm installing an ARB air compressor in my truck.  On Sunday I installed the part of the electrical cables that mount to the battery.  To do this I removed the 10mm nuts on the battery terminal cables for both + and - terminals.  I removed negative first then positive and reinstalled in the reverse order.  I was extremely cautious to avoid shorting, arcing, or whatever else you want to call it.  I even went as far as covering both the positive and negative ends of the cable with electrical tape to prevent unintentional contacts that could cause problems until it was time to connect that end of the cable.  I never experienced a spark or anything else that would cause me concern during this process, however I suspect something unintentional occurred.

This evening, when I got in the truck and started it, everything seemed fine until I noticed the climate controls weren't illuminated.  I tried to turn them on, but they were dead.  I began function checking everything else and found no other problems.  Radio, wireless charging, CB/GMRS/Ham radios, steering wheel controls, door window and mirror switches, and even the buttons below climate control all function normally.  I just can't control the AC/defrost via the knobs and buttons.  I also lost heated seats.  I can control everything but heated seats through the radio screen, so it's not a big loss at the moment.

I haven't had an opportunity to look into the issue.  It was cold tonight, I didn't get home until after 11pm, and my truck doesn't fit in the garage.  Working on it was not an option.  Thinking about this problem, I hope I only blew a fuse.  Where is the fuse?  What location number is it?  I know of 3 fuse boxes in the truck.  I'm hoping I can cheat by asking you guys to tell me where it's at.  I currently have a lot on my plate and won't be able to look for a few days, but if I'm able to go straight to it I might be able to resolve this problem by sneaking away to the parking lot while at my son's baseball practice tonight.  If there's no blown fuse I fear I might have ruined the climate control unit, which is preposterous to me since I'm not doing anything with that system and nothing else failed.

Thanks in advance.  Sorry I'm a bumbling idiot.  I'll try to find something to blame GM on next time.

Thank you for the info.  Hopefully it's just a blown fuse.

So, I got around to looking at the fuse.  I was disappointed the fuse was still good.  Since it wasn't bad, I decided to put it back in.  I looked at a couple other fuses in that box based on name and checked to see if they were good.  Iirc, #46 and #25.  Everything was fine.  I closed the fuse box and locked the truck thinking I had to replace the head unit.  Next time I start up my truck the climate controls light up and are fully functional.  I find this to be weird.  When installing the wire harness for the air compressor I only touched the battery.  Since everything is back to normal I have no need to explore this further.  Thank you for your help in this matter.
