2024 Sierra SLT 3.0 Duramax - Remote start quit working a few days after purchase

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the appropriate subforum, so feel free to move or let me know if I need to.  I have a brand new 2024 Sierra 1500 3.0 Duramax SLT. The remote start worked just fine the first few days. Now it just flashes the lights and I hear it do a half/single crank and it gives up. Thinking it might be a keyfob issue, I tried the mygmc app, which had the same result. There are no check engine lights or service warnings.

Obviously I'm under warranty, but if I could figure this out and fix it myself, it might save me a trip and future headaches.

Not long after I bought my 2023 LTZ I started having slow or failed starts. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced the battery. I didn't have any check engine lights but did get warning messages on the DIC after start up. I don't know how long my truck sat before I bought it but the start issues started less than a month of purchase.

It might just be a weak battery but I'm just speculating.

All doors must be closed and locked, all windows must be fully up (closed), even the rear back window must be closed, fuel  rail pressure must be correct, oil level must be correct,  the fuel pedal must not be depressed, hood must be fully closed and latched… these are just a few of the conditions which be satisfied before a remote start is permitted…

if it was me, take it to the dealer..it is what the warranty is for…

open your hood and see if you get a hood open indicator.   If no indicator with hood open, the hood latch could be defective.

The first part is not entirely accurate.  I've never had a problem remote starting my truck with the door windows down, rear window open, or even a door open.  I've never tried with the hood open though, so I'm not going to debate that.

No debate, you ask for help, I provided what I know about all the checks which take place as part as the anti theft system in the vehicle.   If these checks are not being done in the newer vehicles, I believe I will stay with my 2019 as the quality appears to have taken a nose dive be it due to the chip shortage or whatever.

Turns out I did have a Check Engine light that I just didn't notice because it was bright out. Took it to the dealer with 181 miles on it and it has a failed NOX sensor, which is now on backorder. Not a great way to jump into ownership of a modern diesel..

I challenge you to go out to your truck, go roll down 1 or all of the windows (I usually do all 4 with the remote by pressing unlock twice and holding the unlock button down on the 2nd press for a few seconds until the windows roll down.  Must be setup to roll down windows in the computer first.), leave a door open, then try starting it with your remote.
