I've owned a 2023 GMC Sierra Elevation 2.7L 4 cyl for less than one year. It's been in the shop three times and its currently in the shop once again due to a transmission issue. I hear a big bang in the transmission while stopped at a light and then check engine comes on and the truck is stuck in one gear only. Its been in the shop almost 10 weeks in less than one year of ownership. The dealership is working with the GM tech line and they are waiting for a valve body part which is currently in back order status. Getting VERY frustrated right now !!! This truck is for work and the dealership has been very helpful trying to fix the problem however the problem keeps coming back and I'm almost sure it may fail again.

Our team regrets to hear of this transmission concern with your Sierra and would like to take the time to learn more and assist. To do so, please send us an email to [email protected]. Update on my 22 chevrolet silverado.. was at dealer since april 26. Needed valve body replaced. Picked up my vehicle august 9. Everything was good until october 2!! Made a loud screeching noise and would not go while i was at a parking lot. It jerked and i was able to park eventually. Waited about 2 minutes and went home and it drove ok but obviously it was not normal so now its back at the dealer!! 😫 all advisor told me was that they would try and get a diagnosis asap. I created another claim with gm and let them know at this point im not even comfortable with this vehicle anymore! I don’t feel safe driving it. I feel like it will eventually break again and my warranty will expire and ill be stuck paying out of pocket. I asked if a buy back was possible but im still waiting for a reply on that. So frustrating!

common issue parts are always on backorder. seen them brand new outta the box with rust on them. so have to reorder and wait for a good one. get the TCM reprogram done and install the cooler line check ball delete box that likes to stick in hot temps and over heat the trans.

I have a 2022 GMC 1500 Denali w/10-speed and 23K miles. I was told this morning it needs the Trans Control Valve Body replaced. As everyone here knows, the part is on backorder with no ETA. It seems like some of you waited, or have been waiting, for many weeks. After reading all the posts, I'm concerned this could become a recurring problem that I'll get stuck paying for after the factory warranty expires.

Hoping GM at least pays for a rental while I wait for the new part, we'll see how that goes.

I suggest you open up a claim with gm. Ask your dealer for a loaner. I was able to get one the first time my vehicle went in. Unfortunately for me it’s the second time it’s in the shop and this time no loaners are available. Although it has not been diagnosed due to not acting up while in the shop. Im sure its the same thing or at-least has to do with the transmission. I also feel like it will be an on going problem and will be stuck having to pay out of pocket  once warranty expires. Checking my options but according to my gm advisor we need a diagnosis before we can move forward.

I just brought my 23 Silverado 3.0 with 10spd in for transmission issue which ended up being valve body. They called me this afternoon (dropped off this AM) and have identified the issue as the valve body and can have the new part in their hands tomorrow from their PA warehouse (I’m in NY).

For anyone waiting for a 10spd valve body, give that a shot. They apparently have 9 of them……maybe 8 now that i took one

I purchased a 2021 TRAIL BOSS that is CPO through a Chevy dealer last year with 16k miles on it. It has 38 K miles now and the dealer says it needs a valve body replacement. No eta from the dealer I took it to.

the dealer I bought it from can’t help either. They said there’s only 5 parts in the US that GM won’t release for repairs. They have no eta on new parts and won’t replace the whole transmission. They said they could help me with a rental car that I would have to pay for and get reimbursed only up to a certain amount. Need a truck for work and they can’t guarantee a truck for rental. GM won’t respond to my emails, phone calls and voicemails for the past week. I’ve been without for a month now and I still have to pay for my truck payment and a rental car. Hopefully GM will respond to me here finally if nothing else. Does anyone else know if Lemon Law is valid for this issue or if it works with CPO vehicles?

thanks,

Mark

2023 Silverado 3500 with 15,000 miles.  Bought it used from dealer as certified pre owned.  It ran for 4 days before the valve body failed leaving us stranded on the freeway with a brand new 5th wheel. No offer of a loaner. We had to figure out how to get our new 5th wheel 320 miles home without a truck.  No help, no timeline, and no answers on what they would reimburse from Chevy.   After two weeks Chevy finally “escalated” us.  We got someone who could at least explain the reimbursement.  Shop then told us it would likely be 2025 (WTF) some time before any valve body parts are available.  Shop took a closer look at the truck and now we are getting the transmission replaced.

Appreciate all of you on this thread as it helped us with expectations more than anything Chevy ever did.

I came back and looked at the timeline on this thread.  Dang, Chevy definitely knows about this issue and still won’t do a recall?   Why is Chevy KNOWINGLY SELLING DEFECTIVE trucks?   Fix your supply chain or stop selling until you can fix your trucks already the road (I mean stuck at the shop).

The person I got escalated to told me they may help with your payment if your vehicle is out 20 or more days.  They won’t do anything until your truck is done of course, but hopefully this helps you.  If you haven’t called Chevy customer service already (800) 462-8782 maybe you can ask about this.

We've been waiting a month for the valve body on our 2022 Sierra. I got a call from the service manager yesterday. Evidently there are 2000 vehicles presently waiting for this part, and yet they continue to make new trucks with the updated part but don't provide it for current customers. Most of the vehicles are under warranty on top it.

Same issue a 2023 Sierra 2500 at 31,00 miles.  Truck been waiting since September 20th.  5th  wheel and truck are sitting 250 miles from home.  Missed several camping trips and had to get a one way rental home.  Today dealer said there is now no ETA for part.

There is currently no recall on the transmission even though at any given time in the last year (or more) there are 2000 vehicles waiting for the valve body. Obviously GMC doesn't issue a recall, even though this is a known problem, because they aren't allocating many of the redesigned part to current owners. Most go to producing new vehicles. They already have our money! Please file a complaint with the NHTSA at this link. https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2022/GMC/SIERRA%25201500%2520LIMITED/PU%252FRC/2WD#complaints

Maybe we can save others the headaches, possible injuries and out of pocket costs that we have incurred. Also if there is a safety recall I'm assuming GM would be forced to replace the transmission if parts are unavailable. This is something they are refusing to do now even though people have been months without their truck. The process is anonymous when you file a complaint and the NHTSA could force GM to initiate a safety recall.

Even after all this heartache and misery there is still a line of people waiting to give GM there hard earned money. When are you going to realize once your plates are put on that truck and you drive off the lot GM could not give a rats ass about you or your safety or the huge monthly payment still due, even as your brand new unusable truck is sitting waiting for parts that are not in stock. I have been with GM as a line mechanic for 49 years and can't believe what I see in my own shop and how people are treated when they have legitimate problems. These new trucks are horrible and its a crime that GM gets this much money for a substandard product.
