2021 Head Lights

Recommended Posts

Doing a bit of venting.  I have a 2021 AT4 2500HD diesel.  My drivers side head light started to act like a strobe light.  I couldn't drive at night without giving the drivers coming at me or in front of me seizures.

So I took it into the dealership and found out that my entire head light needed to be replaced.  Oh it gets better, they found a light out on the passenger side also, so they need to replace that one also.  I was quoted over $3,000 to replace both.  Evidently you just can't replace a bulb like the good old days.  You have to replace the entire assembly.  Each head light runs about $1,400 (yes you can buy online for cheaper, but i'm not a mechanic), then add in labor and tax and just like that you have a grand total of $3,485.  Of course this isn't covered under warranty or my extended warranty.  No damage to the head lights, no water damage either.  I thought these LED lights would out last the truck, what a joke.

This has to be the most ridiculous repair I have ever had to pay for.  How does GMC think people can afford $3,485 for head lights!  The family really didn't want Christmas gifts anyway!!

Maybe just replace for now the one that’s a real problem?  Also, do you have a friend that’s a diy person who could coach or help you for some beer and dinner?  Or search for a youtube video and tackle it yourself?  It’s likely the trickiest thing about the job will be figuring out some unique non-obvious release feature on an electrical connector.

Why isn't this defect covered on your 3 year warranty?

just replaced the left hand  headlight assembly on our 2021. this just another  dumb design, mount the headlight control module on the bottom of the headlight where it can and does fill up with moisture. i took the module off the old headlight and it was almost full of water, and you can't just buy the module
