GMC Multipro Tailgate

Recommended Posts

GM has come out with a software change that allows you to lock out the upper half of the tailgate while towing. For those of us that have a 2020 model it would be nice if GM would step up to the plate and update the software on our trucks as well. This can be an expensive oops when it should of been addressed during the initial design.

I know the functional change is baked into my 2024... Have you tried pressing the release button for the inner gate and holding it for 7-10 seconds? If your truck has the lockout function, the tail lights will flash to indicate that the button has been disabled and subsequent presses of the button will only flash the tail lights. Reverse the setting the same way...

I know it wasn't originally something available in that model year, but if they updated it OTA, it it might be an option now to try.

I have a trailer with a fixed jack that a solid tailgate will hit.

Opening the small section of multipro gives me some bed access without opening tonneau, so I don't disable mine.

To be useful for me, disabling the 'open' button on the dash and /or fob would be much more useful.

Anyway, I'd guess the enable/disable may have arrived with the 22.5 refresh.

Method is in the '23 1500 owners manual.

It's only 3 seconds to enable/disable.

Seems like a 'long push' of the button can result in unintentional enable / disable.

For the 2024, that is now seven seconds of holding to enable / disable. Clearly, they are still "learning" with this gate and its associated controls and such.

The outer tailgate will not open if the inner gate is not fully closed. Is there a "hack" in there somewhere that will disable that center stack button for you?
