My 2019 6.2 AT4 started having a tick about 3 weeks ago. The tick started for about a week and then went completely away for another couple of weeks. The Tick started again today and I scheduled service next week. I have a few questions for those that have experienced the issue:

I've read on the forum and it appears the tick can be lifters or from an injector. Has anyone had anything else had other problems that caused the tick?

It seems strange that a lifter issue would simply go away for a few weeks. If a lifter fails it would seem to be a persistent issue. Has anyone heard of the lifter issue masking itself for a brief duration?

Are there aftermarket lifters that are known to prevent this going forward?

I heard there was a class action lawsuit on the lifters but cant find much about it. Does anyone know where it stands?

I have an extended warranty but in just about every case I've had in the past they've found a way to deny any claim I've made. If I have to pay for this out of pocket what will it run?

Thanks so much for all of your input.

Aaaah this can be a really bad problem. Search collapsed lifter on this forum. I would get your truck into a GM dealer right now. If it was my truck I would stop driving it and have it towed to a dealer. Collapsed lifters/lifter failure causing camshaft damage and possible engine failure is a known problem on the 6.2 and the 5.3L engines. I am not trying to scare you but lifter noise can be the only warning you get before engine failure.

Please keep us informed about this situation. Good luck.

I just picked up my 2019 RST from the dealership this evening. Exactly the same symptoms as the OP reported.... Collapsed lifter on cylinder #5, camshaft damage. A week later and 9800.00 bill I am beyond pissed at GM...

Take the advice of bikerjon

Very very sad to hear this. How many miles on your truck? No help from GM?

Unless you have warranty why does everybody take their truck into a dealer for major repairs like this? You’re paying a much higher rate than you would for a good independent shop. For $9800 my DFM better be gone forever.

The easiest answer is probably major engine repairs aren’t common. They’re transmission shops everywhere. Brakes and oil change shops too. I’ve had one engine fail including all my hot rods in over 50 years. The one engine failure was just out of warranty they replaced it, I paid the labor. My favorite shop of over 40 years was my muffler guy and out of warranty repair guy. He didn’t do engines unless you bought one to him. No money in it. You had to be a friend or good customer.
