Recommendations For A High MPG Vehicle

Buddy has a 2022 Camry. Does 40+ MPG on the highway all day every day. Would be a nice car to rack up some miles in. Comfortable. Big inside but small enough to park and maneuver. Plus…no CVT and no turbo. Pretty much guaranteed to outlive all of us.

Honda has kinda lost its way. Lots of problems with the 1.5 in the Civic and Accord, and I still hate CVTs.

If I was buying used not CPO Toyota Honda. If I was buying CPO Hyundai would be considered with their warranty. Be sure to check if your Honda has a timing belt. A additional cost for your 100K expensive maintenance along with plugs. If you’re buying a commuter car new those and Nissan the Sentra is now reliable and lest expensive so is the VW. If it’s a long time keeper Toyota will be cheaper in the long run.

My son commutes 162 miles a day round trip for work. What would you buy?

How little does he value his time? Not to mention the actual cost to drive that far everyday? He should rent a place close by for the same as he will probably spend commuting 3-4 hours a day.

^^^ Great idea!  I was faced with the same issue decades ago and moving close to my job was the eventual outcome.  I had bought a used K-car and did the two hour each way commute for a few months.  The alone time behind the wheel can be alluring but gets boring quickly!

Not if you bought a sports car.😁

FYI 1454.

He wants to live rural and has a nice house on 16 acres with a 50 x 100 pole barn. No close neighbors, wildlife and great views.

His commute is 90 min. His home is near a freeway, and work is close to the freeway.

That sounds like my first 30 years. I lived 20 minutes from a freeway but was in the country. I wasn’t going to deal with an HOA. Working on pipelines my job always was a moving target. My max was 120 miles one way. Eventually I added a second house on my property that now gets rented out. My way is one way. If you have a job that has decent housing close by and save to an IRA. You can build wealth that way. I did both. Property is the best way. It depends on your preference. I didn’t mind the drive.
