2024 6.2 with active exhaust is surprising!

Recommended Posts

I just took delivery of a 2024 LTZ CC standard box with the 6.2 to replace a 2019 with the same specs.  The active exhaust feature sounds really good and is surprisingly loud on startup and acceleration.  It is quiet at highway speed.  I am not a fan of loud exhaust but with a flip of a switch it is kinda fun.  I was fearing I would hate the console shifter but it is easy to operate.

The dual mode in the Camaro and Corvette (and others) operate similarly.  The valves are open during startup, then will close up after about 10-15 seconds after cold start.

I've not seen a 2024 6.2 yet, but I understand the valve is tied to the drive mode?  So sport mode it opens up, normal it probably opens past a certain RPM or throttle input?  Is there a page in the settings for the exhaust to sync it to drive modes or be loud all the time?

The muffler is single in/dual out which is different than the non dual mode which is single in single out and then Y out for the left and right.

It is activated by going to sport mode.  The normal startup is pretty loud too, but if left in sport mode it is twice as loud I would say.  Kind of obnoxious in my garage with the door closed.  haha. It is not open at any other point using normal or off road mode that I can detect.  Just healthy 6.2 noise.

Assuming that it works the same way as the Dual Mode exhaust on the Camaro, the valves are completely open at startup because they are on a spring that pulls them open and electrical signal is required to close them - it won't matter what driving mode you're in.

If you want to close the valves prior to startup, you have to press and hold the start button WITHOUT your foot on the brake until the whole system powers up. This takes about 15 seconds. Once it's entirely powered up, you can choose a drive mode where the valves would NOT be open and then start the truck. You should notice a difference in sound level...

Anyone have the new active exhaust on their GM truck, but also had the Borla Touring / GM Performance Exhaust in a previous truck?

I’m curious how you would compare them. I have the GMPE on my 5.3L and really love the balance of cruise speed low noise but some growl when you’re on the gas.

Wondering if the active exhaust is similar to the GMPE.

I have a 2024 coming in next month with the 6.2L active exhaust, I want to put the AWE exhaust on but not sure if it will make that much of a difference then the active exhaust I sport mode, love to hear if anyone changed their exhaust with the active exhaust as well.

Someone on this forum installed an aftermarket exhaust (Borla maybe?). But anyway they were having problems because there is an actuator or solenoid in the active exhaust system that needs to be plugged in. I did not see that he ever found a solution to this problem. You should ask the exhaust manufacturer about this before installation.

The 2024 active exhaust pretty much eliminates the need to purchase an aftermarket system.  Whisper quiet or loud at the twist of the dash switch from Normal to Sport.

I’ve got a 2024 Trail boss with the active exhaust on the 6.2. Basically, it activates in sport or off road mode. As far as the sound goes, it sounds amazing. At times I wish it was just a little louder but I’ve heard of guys removing the resonators and leaving the NPP / Active exhaust on it. I mean really the exhaust is plenty loud enough it’s just the cab is quiet, which is a good thing for ride quality.

if you’re just cruising down the highway it’s not going to be loud but at higher RPM’s it’s got a really nice growl to it and they will definitely hear you coming.

There’s something that AWE exhaust gives you when you install there exhaust system that eliminates all issues and lights from coming on after the install. Thank you!
